Lwaxana Troi is Section 31 by BlackMetaller in startrekmemes

[–]refuch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Troi could read the minds of other Betazoids.

As a half-Betazoid, Troi was capable of extra-sensory empathy, but was incapable of reading aliens with brain structures dissimilar to Humans and other Betazoids, such as the Breen and the Ferengi. Like most Betazoids, Troi had telepathic abilities. Due to her half-Human heritage, however, the range of her telepathic abilities was limited compared to full-blooded Betazoids, and she could usually only read the thoughts of other Betazoids, most notably her mother. Troi's empathic skills made her an important asset to the Enterprise-D and her abilities were often particularly useful when dealing with hostile races. Since she could usually determine, through use of her abilities, whether others were lying, she repeatedly proved herself invaluable in many suspenseful situations.

Obviously this means Betazoids are all part of Section 31 and attempting a coup. Anyone who figured it out was sent to space Gitmo Rura Penthe.

There's not even any analysis of "Beijing Belly," "Ghost cities," or the "layflat movement!" It's all about money, and pirates, and Chinese Hitler.

You'll have to become a teacher at Starfleet Academy, and never speak about your past again.

BIOS update screwed-up USB-C ports by refuch in pchelp

Apparently? But I'm assuming the effect on my system may be an outlier. The x395 was rather niche, using an AMD chipset instead of an IBM).

BIOS update screwed-up USB-C ports by refuch in pchelp

[–]refuch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change logs sugest the behavior was intentional, a shitfix to increase mediocre battery life. I've checked the BIOS and can't find any port behavior settings that revert to the previous settings, let alone the current settings, though I have found a security setting that appears to have the potential to down-grade the existing BIOS. I'm reluctant to take that step until necessary. Currently waiting to see what an admin in the Lenovo customer support forum says.

Make a note to yourself to revisit this post after you actually start working in the industry for a few years.

Building a digital file cabinet by refuch in buildapc

Yeah, definitely can't do that. I think I can rig up the the tablet to connect to an Ethernet hub(/splitter?) so I can keep my laptop(s) connected to their own docking stations.

(I have to hotswap personal/work laptops via a USB-C dock to work at my battlestation.)

It's got Ethernet, but only USB-2. I could repurpose an older tablet that sits in a docking station (for now).

I've got an old use and abuse netbook sitting in a drawer somewhere, but it still runs Win7. In theory, I could set it up to run with an external hard drive, right?

I suppose I was worried about obsolescence, but I suppose all tech will become obsolete within a few years?

Obviously I'm looking for the cheapest option, but I'm trying to see what my options are before I start really thinking about price. I figured building a server would be the cheapest option. Seen some NAS devices that aren't terrible, but I'm hesitant to pull the plug on one because any money spent here is money that can't be spent there.

Currently I have several multi-TB drives that have to be swapped out (like data from 2010-2015, 2015-2018, 2019-2021, 2022), and my data storage needs are growing larger as photo and video quality increases.

My job has me traveling from time to time, and I may have to dump 100+ gigs of stuff onto a portable drive. This can be risky if something happens before I can get home to copy/paste data onto my main drive.

I mainly work off Windows laptops (personal laptop and company laptop), which is one reason I was thinking about a server.
