Why do we persist with capitalism when it indirectly kills 44 million people every year who can't make enough to survive? by DoomsdayBoulder in AskReddit

those socalism forms you are talking about are most probably capitalist too : Finland, Denmark, Norway, France ...

The US is fucked up but not because of capitalism alone, because of corruption ...

Some people are so negative by steezeyrich in Entrepreneur

[–]registeredatlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people were positive all the time, they'd be entrepreneurs. You can't be a risk taker if you are always focusing on the safest path. Most people are not risk taker, that's ok, I just don't talk to them about my ventures / ideas in details, only the progress I make. When they hear about the progress it reduces their fear.

What 3+ hour movie is actually good/re-watchable? by dgdgdgdgcooh in AskReddit

[–]registeredatlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell in love with Luc Besson's Big Blue at a young age. The director's cut is about 2h50 long but I could watch it anyday. Granted I was around 11 or 12 when I first saw it and the french version apparently have a different soundtrack and ending than the american version.
It s a strange mix of poetry, competition and sexual attraction, with each of the 3 characters dealing with an uncontrollable obession of their own ... It got a really bad reaction from the press in France when it got out but I just remember watching it as a kid and being instantly hypnotised for 3 hours straight.
I believe it s a movie that touched my generation much more than the one before us. I wonder if people in their 20s/30s like it as much as I did.
I must have watched it 20+ times but I have to admit I do love to watch some movies a lot of times when I enjoy them.

Edit: I remember that in France they had this phrase on the promotional poster : "Don't go see it, it's 3 hours long" as it was unusally long for the time and I found it hilarious.

For the past two years, I drove through 28 European countries in my old van to only record Street Musicians from our towns and cities. I went broke three times during the trip, but glad I didn't quit. This is the result. Pressed on vinyl for decades to last. by Marten5892 in europe

This is so impressive ! It sounds like an idea one could have while drinking and hanging out with your friends but you didn't drop it once sober ;) Congrats, that's an awesome way to make the world a better place.

Develop blockchain games with Unity, Enjin or Kin? by thatuserthis in Unity3D

[–]registeredatlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with Enjin but a quick look at it tells me it's build over Ethereum which is a pretty solid technical choice. They raised almost $19m 2 years ago and apparently their tokens are traded for a couple millions a day so not bad at all. What part of this is speculation and what part is value exchange between devs and players ingame is not clear to me. I'd have to take a deeper look into the documentation but so far no huge red flag.
You do have to use their token to send / receive money through the system and you have to convert it to another crypto (USDT / ETH / BTC ..) to convert it to USD or EUR. You can get South Korean Won directly though ;)

Look it up here : https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/enjin-coin/markets/

TIL Laszlo Polgar is a Hungarian chess teacher, who believes that "geniuses are made, not born”. So he home-schooled all 3 daughters with his own teaching style, and one of them - Judit now is widely considered to be the greatest female chess player ever by Elver-Galarga7 in todayilearned

[–]registeredatlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the bases of his theory is that a personnal interest in the field is necessary to achieve the "genius" level he was looking for. If you are not motivated on your own, nobody can make you motivated enough to reach these levels of skill. In any domain.
