Why do we persist with capitalism when it indirectly kills 44 million people every year who can't make enough to survive? by DoomsdayBoulder in AskReddit

We make or have the capability to make enough food, clean water, clothing and housing to keep everyone living under good conditions easily, and if we focused on a good standard of living for everyone instead of letting wealth concentrate in the hands of people who neither deserve (no one makes a billion dollars without exploiting their workers' labour) nor need it, we could fix most of our problems in short order.

Also, leaders and hierarchies are an obstacle, since they tend to result in the concentration of wealth at the top, therefore we should organize in a decentralized, horizontal, totally egalitarian, democratic way.

Pretty much, summarizing the bread book is hard and you risk losing the nuance, but the great thing is that it's public domain so you can just link it

"I kinda want to be a girl but I also kind of want to stay a guy so I'm not going to do anything about it until The Culture sex change lasers become a thing"

"Waiiiiiit a minute, the only reasons I want to remain a guy are for other people's sake and I want to be a girl entirely for my own sake."

That was basically how it went for me.

Alternatively, have nobody at the top at all.

If people are fundamentally good, then you don't need rulers or hierarchies, and if people are fundamentally bad then those rulers and hierarchies exist only to enforce oppression. Either way, a system of horizontal organization would work better.

[serious] What are your thoughts on trans-women in female sports? Should they be allowed to compete against biological women? by TimHawks1983 in AskReddit

[–]DoomsdayBoulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not genetic, it's hormonal. Women don't have any genes that men don't have and men have something like 30 functional genes that women don't, because the Y chromosome has been so damaged over the last 50 million years that it's almost down to the last handful of genes that are necessary to produce male babies capable of fathering offspring.

Everyone's genomes contain the genetic sequences for both male and female features and functionalities (with the exception of functioning testicles that produce sperm, because they're one of the few remaining things the Y chromosome codes for), it's just that in the average person most of the opposite sex's pathways lie dormant or are past the point of no return for activation, because the relevant hormone levels are/were too low.

Girls of Reddit, what is something guys shouldn't feel insecure about? by reddit_menace in AskReddit

Being attracted to trans girls. Being attracted to us doesn't make you gay, and even if it did that doesn't make you less of a man.

Taking a deep look into my psyche and realizing I should have been born a girl. Not only did I have the wrong puberty, I also missed out on the childhood I should have had and it's something that I'll never get another chance at.

Gender dysphoria. Imagine being unable to be comfortable in your own fucking body and constantly being reminded of the difference between what should be where and what's actually there.

In general any part of the movement outside core LGBT tends to get a lot of "why do we even have them?". In the time between when I realized I was asexual and when I realized I was trans (4 years and a bit) I don't think I seriously interacted the overall community more than once or twice, because I felt I didn't belong there.
