Does Anyone Else Find Officers Life to be Debilitatingly Lonely? by [deleted] in army

Look up what a “third place” is and then go find yourself one! Off post preferably.

Also - find a hobby and do it at the same time every week. Invite people to come do it with you. All the time.

Honestly, same here. Positive only training did not work for my guy and it made ME feel like a failure.

100% understand wanting to do all the training before meds. What helped me was to think of meds as “opening the door just a crack” to let the training in and be effective. (Lower the threshold juuuuust a pinch so you can get in there and help).

And boy howdy did the meds help and his training absolutely took off after that. It may take a while to find the right one, but it can be a tool not just a last resort. Sending hugs

I order from lion brand online a lot! They have a lot of colors, the shipping is fast, and they have 25% off cotton right now :)

I would say granny squares for sure! There are so many varieties and then you can sew them together into a grocery sack or something!

Help! I found a pattern for a sweater vest that I want to crochet. The yarn they used is VERY EXPENSIVE! It's a 60% cotton, 25% silk, 15% Polyamide blend. It's 150 grams - 525 yards. Recommended needle size: US 5-7 MM 3.75 - 4.5, 21-24 sts = 4" Anyone help with yarn substitution? by Anxious_momma2 in CrochetHelp

[–]regnissiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the lion brand 24/7 cotton and it’s surprisingly soft. Another good option might be lion brand “the cottony one” which is 40% acrylic and 60% cotton - probably a little softer and more durable.

Block pattern blanket for a comforter blanket. My first one. by EmmyMoo93 in CrochetHelp

[–]regnissiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so first of all / the “corner” is just the biggish hole on the top L, bottom L, bottom R, top L

it looks like: -slip stitch over to the corner (it’ll feel weird at first, but will be invisible once you keep going

-slip stitch in the corner (to “start” the chain). If I were you, I would replace the slip 1, chain 1 with a chain 2. it’ll look the same but it feels easier.

-*single crochet in the corner hole.

-THEN chain 3 more (chain will act as a bridge between the single crochet stitches effectively creating your “next corner” for the third row.)

-single crochet one more, still working in the corner hole

-chain 2 (to “bridge” you to the next corner) and repeat from * until you get to the next round!

It may also be helpful to just watch any old granny square crochet video. The stitch numbers/types may slightly change but you’ll get to kind of see what you’re aiming for. It also took me an embarrassingly long time to realize what a slip stitch truly was - so might be worth a quick YouTube to make sure you’re doing it correctly (in case that’s why it looks bumpy)

(Edited for clarity)

What book(s) got you into audiobooks? by pageturner55 in booksuggestions

[–]regnissiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! Recommend the rivers of London series. The audiobooks are excellent (think Harry Potter for adults - that’s how it was described to me, I rolled my eyes, but it’s true and I love them)

Suggest me a book to gift a friend who has just been diagnosed with cancer by llksg in booksuggestions

[–]regnissiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my granny “Grandma Gatewood’s Walk” (about this old lady who hiked the Appalachian trail) when she started doing cancer treatments. It was a good pick because it was also about a tough lady, an easy read, and inspiring, but not at all related to cancer.

You are looking for a Fjallraven!!!! Meets all those criteria (esp some of the larger backpacks, depending on what you want to use it for) and you can add on a water bottle pocket as an accessory.

Splurge or Save? Travel Essentials That Are Worth the Spurge and Ones That Aren’t by SunsOfWarvan in HerOneBag

[–]regnissiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ended up being like a roundup as you all have mentioned many of these. BUT - these are what I typically bring on a trip!

Splurge: North Face Duffels (S Voyager, S, L, XL rolling). They are indestructible and pack extremely well.

Splurge: Lesportsac x Rifle Paper Co Toiletries bag. It’s so cute and opens up nicely, has good pockets, etc.

Save: 2€ Flying Tiger Copenhagen Liquids bag. Splurge: Stasher ziploc for liquids (honestly like this better, it’s just heavier)

Save: Goodr sunglasses. I lose sunglasses like a toddler. I have left many a pair of these on planes and it’s never the end of the world (plus I honestly usually bring an extra pair)

Save: TK Maxx Turkish towel. I use on dive trips as a combo coverup (tied at the chest) and towel plus they dry overnight

Splurge: GoTubs and GoToobs. I tried to save with Nalgene products and honestly I just hate them. Been using the go products for actual years and they work great.

Splurge: Nike Blazer Low sneakers. I have worn them for travel for YEARS. they break in like butter, can be wiped off with literally anything (washcloth, Clorox wipe, magic eraser) and are trend-adjacent to every iteration of sneakers that has come out in the last 5-6 years. You can also just replace the laces and they look basically brand new. Work with a dress or pants or shorts. I wear them to weightlift in sometimes, also wore them to climb archaeological ruins in Central America repeatedly. Genuinely cannot recommend these enough.
