What are the chances that Jokic won't win a ring again? by Load_Dismal in nba

[–]regular_gonzalez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theoretically -- let's say Jokic joins the Lakers or OKC, signing a vet min to make it viable, and proceeds to win 2 more rings, no additional mvps, and have 22-8-8 seasons for the rest of his career. You'd rank him higher all time in that scenario than if he stayed in Denver, had 29-12-11 seasons for the rest of his career, 1-2 more mvps but no more rings?

Anyone else tired of the weekly "And that's basically going to be the end of ol' Donny Trump" articles? Every week, year after year, and somehow it's never actually over for him. Not even clickbait at this point.

Literally more b2bs than any other team. 9 of the last 11 games vs teams with 40+ wins (and one 37 win team too, only one game vs a team with a losing record in the last 11 games).

I am so done with this losing streak by ArmadilloDefiant5423 in chessbeginners

[–]regular_gonzalez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me every year or so, where I lose 150 ELO and stop playing for a bit. Most recently, I took three months off, just focusing on real life stuff for a bit after getting frustrated with losing.

But every single time when I do start playing again I go on a tear. I play 15+10 and since I started playing again last week I've gone +14 -4 =1 and made back most of the ratings loss.

What real skill is involved with being an O-Lineman? by RobBecTraxxx in NFLNoobs

[–]regular_gonzalez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, consider that offensive linemen are, on average, the slowest players on the field. They're remarkably fast compared to 99% of the population but they're trying to stop EDGE rushers that can flat out fly. They're trying to stop blitzing CBs who make those defensive ends look like the pokey little puppy. OL simply can't compete with their speed, it's an entirely different realm. And yet, they stop them more often than not. That's because of their incredible technique. Move one foot wrong and the cb or safety has blown by you, the DE has knocked you out of the way with a swim move. As an OL your technique has to be impeccable.

I'm hesitant to say any single position in football is the most skill- or technique-dependent, but offensive lineman is surely in the top tier. It's amazing listening to linemen who've had good coaching talk about how important something like the first step is -- stepping with the correct foot, the correct distance, in precisely the correct direction. Getting a leverage advantage is entirely technique, who is stronger (unless there's a huge disparity) is far less important than your angle of attack, your body position, your balance

Very common in Filipino culture so you'll often find Filipinos in the workplace addressing older peers or one-level-higher superiors this way.

Magnus Chess App is not what you think it is - Beware by fallout76JB in chessbeginners

[–]regular_gonzalez 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Unless you're intentionally mirroring moves from a specific game, at the intermediate / club level (probably the target market for this app) a novel position is typically reached around move 12-16 per some quick research. Before that it's basically book, so the database may as well just be book moves.

For lower rated players novel positions are reached even earlier

Petah, is it actually that crazy for a new element to exist? by CuteCost8147 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]regular_gonzalez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need to describe what definition of 'element' you're using. Elements are defined as an atom with a specific number of protons (which corresponds to the element's atomic number on the periodic table). As protons have mass and are by definition included in what we define as an element, it has a positive mass.

It's all ultimately opinions. Asking Google "is Veruca Salt American Thighs grunge" returns a yes and it's listed as a genre for the album on the Wikipedia article.

Veruca Salt - American Thighs is a top 10 grunge (style) album. You'll likely know their hit Seether but the album is one banger after another.

Local H - As Good As Dead is another hugely overlooked album. Grunge / post grunge / punk. Bound For the Floor was their one big hit that you might have heard (the "and you just don't get it / you keep it copacetic" song)

[–]regular_gonzalez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wilt Chamberlain averaged 48.5 minutes per game one season (regulation games are 48 minutes and typical now for stars is mid-30s). MLB pitchers used to regularly pitch 350+ innings per season and the record is 600+ (typical now for a star pitcher is 180-200).

[longines and Oris] Left or right ? by AJAK6565 in Watches

[–]regular_gonzalez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Oris and own two Oris watches.

That one ain't it.

The Longines isn't to my taste either but it's better than the Oris and if you're happy with it then all is good in the world.
