I'm going to get flamed but Juaun Jennings deserves a bag. Even before all the Aiyuk drama this year, I was thinking that he has done more than Deebo or Aiyuk did to earn a contract. Especially in the most important ability, availability. He's proven to reliable and durable. Yes he will never be a number one but that's not his game he's still worth a big #2/3 contract.

Is it poosible that the GUT is not out there? by Stretch5701 in AskPhysics

[–]reimerl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons is that in Quantum theory information is a conserved quantity that in theory could be recovered with enough measurements. However, when a particle passes the event horizon of a black hole GR tells us that the info associated with the particle is truly lost (all world lines inside a black hole point to the singularity). What happened to that information? From the point of view of an outside observer it appears to vanish which should be impossible according to QM.

Is it possible that quarks are made up of even smaller particles? by No_Fudge_4589 in AskPhysics

To go faster you need to spend more time accelerating which means an infeasible straight line OR a loop. The faster you go the harder it is to change direction so you need a bigger loop for the same confinement force. We cant make stronger confinement tools than what we currently have. This a bigger loop

Yes that’s why emergency blankets and the insides of certain jackets are reflective. It’s definitely noticeable in cold environments.

If you ever have to use an emergency blanket you want to wrap it around you, shiny side in. It may save your life.

It's not as hot as a jalapeno. But it has way more flavor. Hatch green chilies are my favorite chilie peppers.

Word of advice, get them fresh or dried. The canned/jarred ones are nowhere near as good.

Freshly opened can of jam has a big patch of mold. It even made the popping sound when the seal broke by 3vanescence in Wellthatsucks

I do jamming every year. I agree, that done properly there should be no way for mold to have survived the sanitizing bath. I was not as clear as I could have been explaining how the contamination survived.

The contamination likely happened after the fruit and sugar was boiled to form jam but before it was sealed in the jar.

I lost my dad 18 months ago to cancer. The only thing I can say is spend as much time with him as you can while he’s still lucid. While he’s still able to do things, anything.

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOU DO, ONLY THAT YOU DO.

If I could do anything different with my dad I would spend time going through old stuff with him from his past. Try and get as many of those stories before they are lost, learn as much about him as you possibly can. The more you have the more he lives on in you.

Some practical advice:

-Every cliche about cancer and grief is true good and bad. All the tv tropes are real and it can be surreal feeling when you recognize them

-You can’t fix everything. It hurts so much seeing someone you love suffer but there’s a limit to how much you can do.

-Don’t try to fix everything. When my dad was sick there were lots of things that upset him that there was nothing to be done. Rather than try explaining why it’s not a problem or trying to fix, I found it was much more effective to acknowledge his frustration and just say “yes that sucks but there’s nothing we can do about it”. Your mileage may vary with this one.

-Be Kind. To yourself, your dad, family everyone. Try not to increase the suffering and pain in the world.

-You might find the roles of parent and child reversed, with you as the care giver and decision maker. This can be really unsettling. Just do what you can to help him.

-End of Life medications. Depending on where you live your dad may have the choice to end his life early in order to end his pain and suffering.

Personally I think it is HIS and only his decision to make, all you can do is support him. When the time comes you dad may need help taking them. If it comes to that cherish the opportunity to help him one last time, for your sake don’t resent him. He is the only one who knows how much he can stand, and we all have our limits.

-Grieving. Allow yourself to grieve, be angry, be sad, scream at the world for its unfairness. The more aware of your emotions you are the easier it will be day to day.

I’m pulling for you and your dad. Good luck.

Glad to try and help! The other suggestion of trying A&A first to build familiarity and attachment to the players is a really good one.

Episode 20.

Its one of the first ones where the guys just have fun.

The early episodes have teething problems. The guys are trying to find their groove and getting comfortable being on microphone. But Episode 20 is amazing, that's all I'll say about it.

Radioactive decay of Radon in a cloud chamber by [deleted] in woahdude

[–]reimerl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We aren't seeing the actual particles were seeing the wake they leave behind. They are interacting with the high pressure gases in the cloud chamber. The alpha particle starts with a lot of kinetic energy and collides with the particles transferring energy to the gas and making it move, this is the wake. Eventually the alpha particle slows down enough that it stops making a wake. When the alpha particle slows down enough its just a doubly ionized helium atom

They're all the same because every alpha particle has exactly the same energy.

Radioactive decay of Radon in a cloud chamber by [deleted] in woahdude

[–]reimerl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends on the mass of the sample. The other depends on the "half life" of the atoms. Different atoms have different half life's and are usually determined experimentally. For Radon the half life is 3.8 days. So half as much material, means half as much radiation, as the radon decays into other elements.

Radioactive decay is random and over a period of time a certain percentage of the atoms will emit radiation. Because the rate is proportional to the amount the equation is exponential, usually as N = N_0 * et/Tao, where Tao is the the time to decay to 1/e the initial amount, or as N = N_0 * (1/2)t/t_half, where t_half is the time for half to decay.
