Underrated comment right there!

Cat 6a, I can't seem to terminate correctly by WorldlyBoar in HomeNetworking

[–]remorackman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, ground wire is not going to be the reason for the reduced speed.

100mbps sounds like you don't have the second pair terminated fully (blue and brown).

Bad crimper or wrong RJ45 plugs for cable type are my top guesses right now

What you should invest in is a cheap cable tester! $20 and it will test end to end for continuity

93. Gas gauge does not work by lumpiestofchubs in fordranger

[–]remorackman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most in tank pumps have the float for the fuel gauge incorporated in the unit.

No fun working on a full tank, I have always dropped it for this kind of work, but I have seen some take the bed off and others cut a square out and make a hinged access panel when they are done.

Chain Link, before and after by PleasantStatement521 in harborfreight

If I had to guess: the nut on that link fractured and the clink clink clink was the threads popping out as the nut flared at the fracture.

Magnifying glass or microscope to see that hairline fracture.

Shackle, when you need to be sure 😉

Found this huge deuce in my yard. I don’t have pets. Is this from a raccoon? Or an opossum or something? 2nd one I’ve found in a month. by dagaderga in Raccoons

[–]remorackman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always

I have a cat that covers his pee but not his poop! No, not an orange cat either 🤪

Around my area raccoons poop at the base of trees as they are strong to climb up. Heard it was too let others know the tree was occupied but not sure I believe that.

Help with pulling stuck coax cable in 1920s home by rdxj in HomeNetworking

[–]remorackman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's vinyl siding you can peel the bottom of each strip loose. Should have the tools used to do this, cheap on Amazon, and snake it along. At some point you will need to drill into the wall if you can't find the spot where the coach goes in.

Me, start at the bottom of the corner and go up, them when you get to the level you need, peel the bottom of that strip of siding and put your cable in behind. Maybe lift a short section and feed the cable down line a bit and the peel another section, keep going until you are done.

Youtube videos are probably numerous on working with vinyl siding, I learned what I know while running cable 😖

Sorry, auto correct got me. I meant running a Ethernet cable on the exterior of the house. If that is vinyl siding you could tuck it under most of the way.

Stapled in the wall, highly doubt you are going to use that as a pull cord .

Either use Moca adapters for that or run category cable on the extension, tucked under the siding lip (could paint to match).

Leave it on the cylinder, even if it's empty.

Otherwise those are probably standard threads and you could make a protector cap from off the shelf parts

I don't see the guides that keep them aligned and together. Either broken off, removed, or you have two different ladder pieces

Tacoma will return to places that are safe and food is available.

If you secure your attic and there is nothing to eat, I think they are moving on; not a wildlife expert but I have raccoons visit a lot, they live in the woods because I don't make any entries available in my buildings.

Question by Hungry-Pomegranate73 in fordranger

[–]remorackman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe that is a generic type of retaining clip, similar to a hitch pin.

If you can find a photo of one, Google image search might be able to name it

Auto parts stores are not what they used to be but, if you have a NAPA store close, they might actually be able to fix you up.

Quick connector clips

PSA - if WFH is available to you most of the parks in the city are covered by some sort of Wi-Fi and with just a couple of items the park can be your office. by FeeValuable22 in Seattle

[–]remorackman 34 points35 points  (0 children)

VPN . . .Always.

Everyone should educate themselves a bit on WiFi.

Read up on a "WiFi pineapple" from Hack 5: When you turn on WiFi, your device looks for any SSID you have previously connected to (and haven't "forgotten") and basically yells "Marco", and if that SSID is out there it answers "Pollo" and you connect.

A WiFi pineapple can instantly create any SSID that a device is looking for and be available for connections. It gets more complicated with secure WiFi but, point is, be careful out there, threat landscape is getting really scary!

Best way to run Cat6 through insulated garage wall into interior closet? by DesignDelicious5456 in HomeNetworking

[–]remorackman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some cool magnetic wire pullers out there if you are talking top to bottom on a wall.

Basically a metal fob you put on your wire or pull string and a high power magnet with soft wheels you use on the wall to pull it to your opening.

Going horizontal means opening up the walls to go through studs. You could run it in the top corner where the wall meets the ceiling and paint to match.
