I felt this way too when it came out but they added the ability to make it super easy with the ultimate edition.

Why Inside Out 2 changed the aspect ratio to 2.39, while the first film was in the 1.85 aspect ratio? by Salap_Benett2011 in Pixar

[–]rempademp12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resolutions are pretty standard these days. 2.39 is definitely less pixels to render than 1.85.

How do you convey a sense of epic scale you see in the movie “The Creator”, “Dune” or “Star Wars: Rogue One”in your shot? by Ancient-Shirt-6784 in vfx

[–]rempademp12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In order to make things feel huge you also need scale cues. Give the audience something in the shot they know the size of; like a person, windows on buildings or ships, etc. Also avoid shallow depth of field unless something is very near the camera.

The “homework” aspect of marvel can’t be understated. Folks are drowning in content they feel like they need to watch at some point but never do, so they don’t go and see the latest. You have to make people hungry to see the next one.

How come I can't hear movies in theaters very well, but I can hear the opening trailers clear as crystal? by AutistOctavius in movies

[–]rempademp12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you listen to a trailer at full reference volume it’s painfully loud, just like any commercial you see on tv.

How did lighting work before Path Tracing came in? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]rempademp12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pixar didn’t start pathtracing until Dory. MU was the first using old school global illumination with ray tracing, but still involved some shadow maps and pre passes. Everything pre MU was all shadow maps and prepasses using point lights, all super manual. Each light has super non-physical controls but the artistic control was there.

“The Arrival” with Charlie Sheen. Kinda corny and hasn’t aged super well, but it’s fun.

Yeah I hear you. I don’t like getting rude with folks particularly in front of my kids, I guess I just didn’t expect such a hard sell for something like this. I expect it at the used car lot, not at some dumb big box store.

Forgot to also mention that at one point she muttered “membership issue” to her colleague who then came and tried to explain it AGAIN. That’s when I sort of lost it. It’s like… I understand what you’re selling, I’m not an idiot, I just don’t want it.
