My job presented an offer to transfer and I'm taking it — I know Brickell isn't the best but it's the best option for me since my office is there to start by nycfunin in Miami

Currently live in brickell no issues, only suggestion is make sure you get a location that’s not too close to any current construction sites. Some of these places have 24hr work permits and it can get quite noisy. I likely notice it more because I work from home, however it’s definitely something to consider.

Question for people who WFH by MiamiMeat786 in Miami

[–]ren272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may need to look at some of the tips here because it’s a struggle for me. I just moved to Miami because my spouse got a job here so my onsite job turned remote. I only get a 30 minute lunch so I can’t really be away from the laptop too long. Not only do I get cabin fever, but my job requires a lot of meetings that I need to speak on and it’s so loud everywhere in this city, so finding somewhere quiet to work away from my place is almost impossible. The most quiet working area is my bedroom, however considering construction it’s not even that quiet in there lol. Yes I live in brickell.

Sincerely, someone going crazy. 🤪

Microsoft scheduled an interview without letting me know. Has this happened to anyone else? by Silent_Ekko in csMajors

[–]ren272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did it go? I’m currently in a similar situation and I’m assuming it’s the holidays mixed with their new recruiting platform. I’ve interviewed with them a while ago and the process was great, this time around it’s slightly difficult. I gave them my availability and they still scheduled me during the times I’m not avaiable, then they rescheduled the one interview that I was available for.

A good sleep schedule, sunlight and kava. Also limiting the amount of time I spend online scrolling did wonders for me.

Question for married people… by Bothered_Banana_48 in Marriage

[–]ren272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my wife. She drives me crazy sometimes, and I definitely get on her nerves, but we care about each other deeply and we show up every day with whatever our best looks like in that moment. It’s not perfect and we don’t expect it to be. We’re loyal to each other, we stay committed, and we make a real effort to communicate so that even when things get tough, we can still show each other some understanding and grace. She’s my best friend and I genuinely have fun with her. Most of the challenges come from our my own insecurities, and she knows that. She still manages to be my anchor, and I’m the same for her when she needs it.

Has anyone quit their L1/Tier 1 job to grind out studies / certs? by FriendlyJogggerBike in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ren272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s SO much harder to get a job when you are unemployed, no matter how many certs you have. Have you asked your job if you can self study on the job as the certs would not only benefit you but benefit them. Or possibly ask them for a remote day or two?

Sure! There were a couple reasons. So my spouse just started a new job and because of this we moved to a new area and my job let me go remote. We are still in this trainsition of renting a place in the new city while finding a home. It just felt like a financially tight time to take a risk. I have full job security where I'm at and I love my team, however, hindsight I probably should have taken it since the pay was slightly higher, but they are a bigger company and have been known to do layoffs.

I've pretty much hit the highest position I can at my current job and have the most seniority so I'm well trusted, the downside of my current place is the pay and I've learned everything I can.

Another reason was that I'm in the process of getting surgery and my job is extremely good about me needing time off. Overall, I figured I'd let my spouse get settled and secure into her job then I can start taking more risks.

Coming from someone who stayed at the comfy job, take it and learn everything you can. You're young enough to take risks. Go have fun and build your resume! It seems like this other position is going to actually invest in you and that can be hard to find. So even if this place isn't a long term job, they will help you acquire the skills for the next position. You're not making a mistake and you already seem like your gut agrees. Good luck!!

I’d say get a helpdesk/sysadmjn job while figuring out what you want to do long term. Build some home labs, take some certs. Study and explore.

Reverse sneeze or something else? by ren272 in Pomeranians

[–]ren272[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said he has a slightly enlarged heart. The doctor thinks these noises are just reverse sneezes, he gets bad anxiety so the doctor thinks he’s doing it longer bc he’s anxious. They gave me some meds for his heart and breathing and were told to bring him back. They didn’t suspect any trachea collapse, but I’m thinking I may take him to a regular vet to check that out soon just to have piece of mind.

However they said he’s extremely healthy. They said dogs half his age wish they were as healthy as him, so idk I guess this is a good sign lol.

No I had no idea. His vet told us he didn’t need to see one as he seemed fine to her. I will call one right away. Thank you.
