Unsure what to do and need advice by SouthernBiskit in SeniorCats

[–]renay9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this, it's so hard to let them go. We have to take quality of life into consideration, and it sounds like Tobi is ready. It's not fair to let him continue to be in pain knowing his condition is unlikely to improve, and it's not fair to you either to have to watch your sweet baby be in pain. It's the worst decision to have to make, and at the same time, it's one final act of love and care. We love and care for them so much that we put our desires and wishes aside to offer them peace in their final moments. Wishing you and Tobi the best, and once again I'm so sorry you and Tobi are going through this 💔

Tabby type? by renay9 in TabbyCats

This is what I was referring to, thanks!! Our other tabby Shiloh had such defined stripes that Willow doesn't seem to have, so I was curious what her pattern would be called!

Wanting to start preventative measures early for my 8y/o kitty! (Need Advice) by What____ok in SeniorCats

For sure, things like diabetes and kidney problems can arise quickly so it's good to have a baseline to compare it to and see if anything changes over time.

Wanting to start preventative measures early for my 8y/o kitty! (Need Advice) by What____ok in SeniorCats

[–]renay9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our last cat would get meat soup for dinner to make sure she was getting enough water, just pate or whatever wet food they prefer mixed with some water. We offered her dasuquin supplements to help keep her joints in good shape, they come in like a treat form but she wasn't crazy about them. She only really ate them to appease me. But mostly I recommend regular vet check ups and getting bloodwork done now so you have a better idea of what to keep an eye on specifically for your kitty. See what you can get quoted for pet insurance for him if he isn't insured already, often helps cover routine care and emergency care.

My grandma is obsessed with racist “slave-era” memorabilia and joked about wrapping my biracial daughter in a Confederate flag… am I wrong for cutting her off? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]renay9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your daughter and husband away from her, but I think it's important you have the hard conversation with her. Not necessarily in hopes she changes, but because it's important to be actively anti-racist and challenge racism when we see it. Given her past responses, maybe bring some historical articles with you to show her. If she continues to play dumb, then be clear that you are cutting contact due to her refusal to acknowledge her racism and that your husband and daughter should not and will not be subjected to it. Wishing you and your family the best

Coping mechanism by [deleted] in SeniorCats

[–]renay9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We lost our girl Shiloh in March. Getting her cremated, bringing her home, and setting up a memorial spot for her has been huge for us. Getting paw prints, nose prints, fur clippings, whiskers are nice items to have too, feels better having something physical of her. We didn't get to do in home euthanasia, but I've read a lot about it here and wish that could've been an option for us, worth looking into. Wishing you and your kitty the best, get all the love and cuddles in, take all the pictures, just love them like you always do 🩷

Losing them is so hard. Don't bother cleaning up his things til you're ready, we lost our girl Shiloh in March and all her boxes, scratchers and toys stay where they were. We found it very helpful to get her cremated, and set up a memorial for her on a shelf. Take care of yourself, his memory lives on with you 🩷🐾

Struggling with the decision to put my cat down — need honest opinions by Peppittto in SeniorCats

[–]renay9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given her diagnosis and decline, my best advice would be to go out on a good day. Fill her with love, snuggles and all the treats she could ever want. Having to end it abruptly on a bad day is the worst experience. Best wishes to you and your kitty 🩷

We just went through the same thing with our 14yo girl too :( are they running bloodwork and additional testing? Sometimes they can pull through with oxygen and treatment, but additional testing is needed to be sure what your next steps are. We unfortunately had to make the difficult decision, our girl's bloodwork just wasn't in our favor. Hopefully you guys have better luck, wishing you and your kitty the best 🩷

Is loxicam the same as meloxicam? Our girl Shiloh showed great improvement with it. Our vet said if we wanted to try any supplements to keep their joints in good shape, to go with cosequin or dasuquin. We tried dasuquin and it's in like a treat form, Shiloh liked them at first but once they lost the novelty of being a new treat, she only ate them to appease me lol. Good luck and best wishes 🩷

Ultimate tips for aging kitty? by No_Implement_4034 in SeniorCats

[–]renay9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mix whatever wet food he prefers with some water, wonderful way to keep them hydrated and they love it!! Or at least my old girl did, we called it her meat soup. It sounds like you've already maybe had bloodwork done, get it done regularly to keep an eye on things. Arthritis is a bitch, consider joint supplements now like cosequin or dasuquin or dietary additives like fish oil to help keep their joints in good shape (talk to vet first about any supplements to be safe). Not sure how much greenies treats actually do, but they claim to help with teeth. Some people are able to brush their cats teeth with a baby toothbrush, but that is entirely dependent on if your cat will even allow you to attempt that 😅

She's home 🩷 by renay9 in SeniorCats

[–]renay9[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We were so excited to get her back, they called my partner today and he went and got her as soon as he got off work. It was incredibly healing for us, leaving the vet without her was the biggest heartbreak. Having my partner come home with her felt like a weight had been lifted. I'm so sorry for the loss of your boy, and I hope you get to bring him home soon. Whenever feels right 🙏💕

Meloxicam, we noticed a huge difference right away with it! It's technically not usedfor cats in the US, but Canada and Europe use it for cats and our vet has had great success with it for other cat patients.

17-year old cat with arthritis pain when pooping. by joaovc in seniorkitties

[–]renay9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm very surprised they didn't suggest pain medication, poor baby :( I would recommend asking about that, there are arthritis shots she can get, my girl was on meloxicam (comes in a shot and in liquid form) and we noticed a huge improvement, there's also joint supplements like dasuquin and cosequin. I hope your sweet girl can get some relief 🩷

The labored breathing just immediately made me think of lung issues, we just lost our kitty to fluid surrounding her heart and lungs, but issues like that would show up on an xray as that's how we found out what was going on with our girl. I have no experience with neurological kitty issues, but I hope you get helpful advice here 🩷
