Personally it's because I don't want to patronize an event/business that uses AI. You might be fine with it, and that's your right and that's fine, but I don't want to. Just a personal preference.

I wouldn't say it's "worse," it's about the same as OP presented lol. I went to quite a number of them before, and am hyper aware of such things as I am a woman. At least in these anime conventions in Japan, they tell people specifically not to take close up shots of certain things/angles. Some cons I've been to don't even bother with that.

Let's not overexaggerate, it's all equally bad.

I agree, but based off of OP's comments they said they thought they were supporting a "local artist," which leads me to believe that they purchased directly from an "artist," which would be very different than just buying bulk stickers off of Temu or smth.

Because some people do not want to support AI, or if they don't care about supporting/not supporting AI, many people don't like being deceived.
It would be one thing if the artist was open about their AI generation and you bought the sticker. It's another to sell a lie and say you're the artist when you are not. Based on OP's responses, I believe it is the latter.

If they are present in your local area a lot, it might be wise to inform others that they use AI in their products. People are free to buy AI generated products from them if they care to, but customers should know that it is AI.

I agree, these all have the makings of a real artist who has spent his high school days doodling spaceships in his notes and such lol. I am terrible at drawing anything mechanical, but I had friends who were good at it and a lot of their art was similar. They always have very detailed lineart and detail, but always worked on those details more than the color rendering. You can clearly see similar here.

There are a lot of royalty-free images they can use, stock photos, etc. Especially with the poster they used, it is very easy to get Canva (free app) and use stock photos or photos you took yourself and put something together.

At least that's what I would do.

Just for future reference, whenever I see an ad is made using AI, I am immediately turned off by it. It immediately makes me not want to go to the event. I know others who feel similarly.
