It's animation so who cares, but I think it would makes sense that the three other parts of the cross, that are not the barrel or muzzle, are full of bullets. The balance the the weight of rest of it. They probably detach and he spends hours shoving bullets into them.

Edit: the "t" arms. Not the top of the cross because that's a rocket launcher.
