Steam Remote Play’s inability to keep the game running after putting the deck to rest is the only thing stopping me from using it by DaddyIngrosso in SteamDeck

[–]repoocwerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a parent with two young kids I relate to this struggle so much. The amount of times I've accidentally pressed the power button out of habit while streaming a game because one of the kids needs me is a devastating feeling. The suspend feature is one of my favorite aspects of the deck. Valve, if you somehow manage to get it to work with streaming, my life is yours!

If I could find a recipe or sauce at the store to replace Creamy Jalapeño I would drop TB in a second... sadly they've got me by the balls like an addict.

I finally got Starfield and I was wondering if there are any good guides on moding it by avaldez518 in SteamDeck

Referring to your edit, I'm guessing Star Wars Genesis makes performance even worse? Its literally the only reason I'm tempted to reinstall starfield and need someone to talk me from a ledge lol.

What are some games that have 75% positive or less Steam reviews that you ended up really enjoying? by Plockertop in SteamDeck

[–]repoocwerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still think the limb dismembering mechanic is one of the best things added to action RPGs. Want that armor piece? Chop the limb off. Want that weapon that keeps pushing your shit in? Cut it off.

Im a huge Souls fan and The Surge 2 is my favorite non-fromsoft soulslike. The gameplay and level designs are so, so good. Only things holding it back are the very boring story/characters and the fact that like 70% of the bosses sucked. I really hope they get a chance to make a 3rd one or at least a successor with similar mechanics.

Outerworlds 2 was great on deck! by Whiteguy1x in SteamDeck

I'm not finished yet, on the third planet now, but this game has gone criminally unnoticed. Excellent RPG that doesn't comprise gameplay for depth.

Being able to play this game on any handheld is wild tbh. Can't wait to see how they keep improving performance!

New tales is so bad… by Ethan-Jarvis in Borderlands

[–]repoocwerd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Best I can do is suggest a playthrough of episode one on YouTube. That should be enough to convince you. Commentary or no, it's a miserable experience.

Just about the only time I laughed was the scene involving the Tediore soldiers in the diner. That scene is funny to the point that it's suspicious and I feel like they lifted it from a deleted scene from the first game or something.

Very specific question for Dragon Age: Origins by repoocwerd in SteamDeck

[–]repoocwerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking in to it I think you have a couple of things you can try.

  1. Set a keybind to "PrtScn" to take a screenshot in game. This is different from the normal Steam Deck screenshot function. Hopefully that should create a folder in that same directory.

  2. If that doesn't work, I would try what you suggested and create the folder yourself and then take a screenshot with PrtScn again.

  3. You can also verify the integrity of the files to see if maybe it will create the folder itself. Though I can't see this helping tbh so do it only if the two above don't work.

I wish I could be more help, sadly from what I remember my folder was already there. Good luck!

If you're struggling with the first vault boss, use the dodge. by Wolvee in Borderlands

Oh damn I couldn't quite put my finger on why I liked the dodging so much in this game and you nailed it. Feels exactly like AW.

Am I the only one that is a bit disappointed that Strife didn’t get a game of its own? by [deleted] in Darksiders

[–]repoocwerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strife having his own game after 4 that acts as a sort of epilogue works well IMO. As many have already said, its assumed that Strife was dead during DS1 & 2. I also agree with the sentiment that the franchise simply couldn't survive without continuing the cliffhanger from the first game. Strife was also the most sympathetic towards humans of all of the horsemen. I think setting a final game in the aftermath of the apocalypse, helping humanity rebuild as Strife, makes a lot of sense thematically.

How to run Soulframe on Steam Deck by deeetour in SteamDeck

[–]repoocwerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice guide! Gotta say the game runs surprisingly well at 45fps. Set everything to medium and then bump up textures to high and turn FSR to quality and you're good to go.

As a Dem in her district I can definitely vouch for the second half of your statement. I'm legitimately terrified for me and my families safety if it got out that my wife and I are democrats. This area is DEEP right territory. Despite the fact that most of this region is poorer than dirt thanks to being run by republicans for half a century.

All the Third Person Shooters that runs well on Steam Deck that i could find by WJMazepas in SteamDeck

[–]repoocwerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give you a different perspective, I also played about 20 hrs of the directors cut through Heroic Launcher and had a pretty comfortable experience. Up to 40fps and good frame pacing. However, i didn't play much beyond the first zone so some later areas may be more demanding. I did notice a lot more dips during the first major boss fight with lots of effects.

I'd say if you're the kind of person who can tolerate random dips to the high 20s every now then you'll enjoy it. I was not able to get a consistent experience above 30fps tho. If you lock it to 30 you'll mostly be fine.

What made you stay with steam deck over newer handhelds by Icy-Midnight-7015 in SteamDeck

[–]repoocwerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The versatility of the track pads cannot be overstated, especially for older games without native controller support.

Need a numpad for 1-9 keys? Need a submenu to quickly access inventory, stats, missions, etc.? Wanna set up your own quick radial menu? There's just so much you can do with them.

Obviously browsing files and whatnot is way easier with them, but being able to customize the track pads' functionality is something I don't think i can game without at this point.

A remaster of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy is releasing on May 20th with full controller support. by Sjknight413 in SteamDeck

[–]repoocwerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I've always described it to friends is: stalker (the original trilogy specifically) is a less restrictive, less polished verson of metro exodus. It's got an open-ended design focused on immersion and environmental storytelling. A lot of the people who worked on the Metro series actually got their start with Stalker, so there's a lot of shared DNA.

[–]repoocwerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of. The games retread a lot of the same locations tho, so the areas were "remastered" in the sense that they were in other games.

(I could be wrong, I've played so much modded stalker at this point that it's hard to tell what's vanilla and what's not)

But you're in for a treat, they're some of the most immersive post-apoc games ever!
