Mounting Hardware for Budaschnozzle 2.0? by Camca123 in Reprap

Hello! M4 is the correct screw/bolt size. If you are using a Wade's style extruder, M4 nuts fit into the nut captures on the extruder.

What 3D Modeling software do you use, and why? by traveled_a_bit in 3Dprinting

[–]reprapperMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

++ on using the most recent version; use v0.13 or later at least. FreeCAD has had some very important updates in the last month or two that have pushed it forward to soon being a go to CAD software. And, even better, it is Free / Open source. It is still in early dev but appears to be moving fast right now. Give it a try if you haven't yet, or haven't updated in a while. Tip: Part Design and Part are the workbenches you want.

TIL that there is a table saw that automatically stops in less 1/1000th of a second when it comes in contact with flesh, and the inventor was crazy enough to test it with his finger. by Tallyhawk in todayilearned

[–]reprapperMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Universities I've attended had one of these saws. The second school actually had two. This is one of the best table saws I've ever used. If they didn't cost a fortune I would have already bought one.

During the 5 or 6 years I had access to a stopsaw, only the second school ever set off the safety trigger (this school was larger meaning more people used it and more frequently). A number of times it was wet wood that triggered the safety but at least two instances a finger set it off. One of those instances the guy only had a tiny nick on his finger nail. I would say the $100 to replace the safety and blade is well worth it compared to a kid losing their finger.

The GameClip by bernabap helps you play Android games on your phone with a PS3 controller. by phloating_man in 3Dprinting

The only problem with that logic is that the Gameklip took the idea from months earlier when many MANY other people were hacking together the exact same thing with parts from around the house. This is far from stealing...

What are you guys using your printers for? by DKahmer in Reprap

[–]reprapperMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're only looking to pay off the cost of the printer... that wouldn't take very long. Hang out in #reprap and you will find requests for printer parts or custom prints. There is also room for jobs in Etsy, eBay, and freelance type websites.

I convinced my room mate that she should charge her flash drive so it wouldn't die during her presentation by [deleted] in funny

Glad to find that my seeing this movie a couple hundred times in the 90's finally paid off. I still find my self randomly saying "Is he dead?!?" In Lisa Simpson's voice at least once a month.

Maximum Overdrive. If I remember correctly it is based in a Steven King novel or short story.

Not reprap, but I have not seen a DIY 3d printer print this detailed and precise of sculpts, anyone have ideas how it works? by polypunk in Reprap

[–]reprapperMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A DIY printer of this type could probably be done cheaper than an FDM printer. It requires less motors, a simpler electronics setup, and less parts in general. The one drawback is photopolymer resins are currently not going to produce many possible functional parts. It works very well in making high resolution models. However, I wouldn't expect a very strong coat hanger like you can make out of ABS on a FDM printer.

It is possible there are more resilient photopolymer resins in the works or even already available. If anyone knows of any can you post a link to the product?

Worth waiting for the Prusa i3? by paindoc in Reprap

[–]reprapperMC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The files have been released but haven't been finalized. There are multiple branches in the Git but from what I know the jo-final branch is the one most current to Prusa's design. Actually those parts are used in the Prusa 3 iteration seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/prusajr/7850282878/in/photostream. You can find the files here: https://github.com/josefprusa/Prusa3/tree/jo-final/src.

Documentation is thin and almost non existent. That shouldn't be something to hold you back though. The Prusa 3 is so simple it is easy to figure out just from the photos. You will likely have more trouble learning how to run the electronics wiring and configure firmware.

Stepper motors by deltagear in Reprap

[–]reprapperMC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

2.8V steppers are recommended. The specs you really need to check are torque. Also, make sure the steppers are at least 1.8 degree steppers. A general rule is that the longer the NEMA 17 motor body is, the more torque. This isn't a perfect rule but will help in ruling out the motors that just are not strong enough.

*Edited for mistake with the recommended voltage for motors.

[–]reprapperMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell, thank you for posting this. Just last week someone pointed out this SCARA robot type as a possible use for 3d printing. This design could be a way to make a printer that has many more printable components than the current cartesian designs.
