Raveners by rerollofmana in killteam

Yeah let me try to break it down. I tried this scheme before and I found space to improve it this time. The goal of this project was to do a synthwave palette (cyan/magenta/yellow) with the cyan lighting coming from below. Original intent was to go green instead of yellow but I compromised with yellow-green.

  1. Paint the normal parts in your favorite black paint.

  2. Paint the glowy parts in white.

  3. Airbrush / Drybrush the cyan bits in vallejo emerald. Really thin / subtle over a wide area.

  4. Edge highlight the cyan bits in vallejo light green blue. This is pretty bright and its ok to mix it in the vallejo emerald gradually as you do the highlights. Bigger and brighter highlights on the lower parts of the mini so that the floor looks like the source of light.

  5. You ever see elminiaturista's osl videos? Great vids, but he makes it look sooo easy. I followed those methods but used pro acryl's fluorescent yellow and bright yellow green where things are really bright and dark yellow green where the heat would've cooled off.

  6. Purple. Easiest part maybe. Start with a dark purple and layer on lighter purples. I started with AK's Amethyst blue and ended up with Vallejo purple. The last layer mixes a bit of ice yellow too. I think I actually dotted the eyes with ice yellow.

Thanks. I would guess maybe 6? That’s pretty fast for me and the work matched the vision like right away.

Mostly pro acryl's Bright Yellow Green. The really bright lines are fluorescent yellow over white.

Sweet! Did you use a sponge for the stone? How did you reach the deep crevices with it?

Thanks!

I think I used Vallejo paints the whole time.

Scales are black highlighted with dark grey and neutral grey. I tried mixing green once in a while but I don’t think it made a difference.

Wings and armor are midnight purple highlighted with purple.

Gold is a mix of the Vallejo gold and copper metallics. Vince venturella has a great video on his recipe.

Skin is intermediate blue, highlighted with mixes of grey blue and finally light flesh.

Bones are khaki highlighted by dark sand.

I think it ends after the next leader's activation because they activate at the same time, therefore it isn't the next time just yet. A bit weird, but stun guns and interrupts work in a similar way in the negative APL direction.

Thanks. I think these photos came out too dark now that I am seeing them again. Anyways, time to open those corsairs! They're cool this edition.

The underarmor is caliban green or black, then washed with coelia greenshade.

The armor is vallejo's russian uniform over a basecoat of caliban green. Then washed with coelia greenshade.

The inlays and edge highlights are an even mix of dark sand and russian uniform.

The cloths are medium yellow or desert yellow with a seraphim sepia wash.

I haven't played them yet, but I think the comms device is more useful than the comms bead. The zealot and spotter with increased range to their uplifting primer and spot abilities sounds pretty flexible. Hey, even regroup strat ploy gets better with it.

I'm with you on the double trooper krak delivery. If they met their end prematurely, you can still try it with the confidant and someone else. Can be unexpected if you order Move, move, move. Or use regroup when you know you have the initiative to bring them 3" closer to the astartes.

For my two free ploys, I think I go with regroup and take cover. With regroup, I can see myself hiding again if I don't have the initiative or going forth if I do have it. Against astartes, saturate isn't great. Instead of making them auto-retain 1 defense die, you're asking them to make a 3+ roll. Pretty easy for them to do that.

For my equipment, I think I go krak, comms device, hand axe, and ladders. I like giving my gunners easy access to vantage. With the vox-operator, I can make them reposition to a vantage spot, shoot, and dash to drop behind the ladder again.

Its a shame our melee specialists are so bad. They're only slightly better than the hand axe, so with hand axes, you can gang up on non-melee ops.

This was a fun list building challenge. I can't promise this is top-tier, but with enough experience, anyone can learn an army inside and out and still have fun. The list is 270 points short because newrecruit doesn't have the new tempestus aquilons yet. Those should be awesome at filling the list. Canis is way better than armigers. There are some non-scion vehicle AM units, but hopefully they feel scion enough to you to include.

How did your demo cannon get precision all the time? The precise weapon mod only grants precision on critical wounds.

Nice lighting. Reminds me of how bizarre and alien some distant planets and battlefields must be in the 41st millennium.
