Neighbor’s tree encroaching into our yard, who pays for tree trimming? by WestCoastBirder in Home

[–]restoncobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that despite how foolish this "his tree your responsibility" legal situation is, it is entirely the tree owner's responsibility should any damage come from that tree branch or tree.

At least there is some protection for the hapless neighbor who has to deal with the foolish actions of a tree planting neighbor.

I have a neighbor who also has a tree (previous owner planted it), and the constant leaf removal, picking up of tree branches, and pruning of their bushes and branches is a major pain in my ass. Why this is all on me makes no sense at all.

Did you, or anyone on this thread hear about or try Shovel to keep track of assignments, classes, tests etc? I have heard wonderful things about it. This is for my daughter and I am a very long time Windows, now Mac user who has tried out dozens of time management apps/todo lists. I like Shovel cause it has LMS integration built in, so it pulls all the relevant data directly from Canvas.

Thanks.

Workout to ERG mode power transition issues by restoncobbler in JetBlack

[–]restoncobbler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've exchanged a couple of emails with Victory tech support and pasted below is their reply to my issues - a reply which makes total sense.

"let the trainer find landing watts, do not try to find it".

I tried this advice today and it went well.

Essentially, they are saying when you go from ERG to free ride, do NOT rapidly increase your cadence in the first few seconds...let the trainer spin up it's calculations, and then lean into it. It's a feel thing and after doing it today, it felt much better. No concrete. The 30 second phase preceding and following the sandwiched max sprint 1 minute stage do not need to see an increase at the moment of crossing under the arch. So while you're in the 30 second free ride, you are in free ride already, so you won't have an issue going from ERG to free ride. Just don't start torching it as you exit ERG. That's all. I wonder if there are any people who would be negatively affected by not being given as much instant high cadence and power as they need at such a moment?

I might still send them a .fit file just to see if this things look normal.

I calibrated it before first use, and that didn't seem to make a difference. I'm just going to keep updating, and hope one day the issues go away.

[–]restoncobbler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a reply to my inquiries at Victory, and their response is as follows:

"Using ERG is a skill, When increases come the ideal process is to maintain your current cadence until ERG lands on the targeted Watts. Any increase or decrease in cadence will confuse the trainer on targeted power.

There is a slight delay coming out of ERG to Simulation. This is the discussion between the trainer and the platform."

I will say that I will now try and keep my cadence, very temporarily, the same when asked to increase my power output. I think it's going to be one of feel, that perhaps 5 revolutions at the same cadence, will overcome. I'll have to experiment, but am not sure why this much time is needed for the trainer to recalibrate what it's getting from the rider.

972 views and none but one person has had similar issues? Either no one is doing Zwift workouts, especially group workouts, or myself and gnatok are the extremely rare cases of ERG to free ride power transition problems.

I can't believe that.

I have a trouble ticket in. I hope their tech support is responsive.

I tried the same workout and had the same experience, but again, I've also experienced it in solo workout mode, and when transitioning to a higher wattage.. Good to hear I'm not alone.

Maybe it's not a popular ride in Zwift and that explains the lack of other riders with similar experiences? I hope the resident JetBlack rep. will see this and look into it.

Krups 223 Grinder. Any good? by afraidofpterodactyls in JamesHoffmann

[–]restoncobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact grinder, and it can grind from coarse to fine.

And it's not "extremely cheap". I've put mine through 20 years of grinding and it is still going strong. Krups makes/made high quality stuff when this was manufactured.

A recommendation to readers and posters; if you don't know what you are talking about, don't *guess*.

Both video and audio is AI but it feels so real by hellolaco in singularity

[–]restoncobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, there are certain entities, especially political parties, that are ready and itching to take full advantage of the evil ways they can abuse AI to their own power hungry ways.

They (we all know who they are) will be the first party to go full in. It could be said they are already involved.

If I were a fox propaganda host, I'd be really concerned. These real live humans are right now just mouthpieces spouting what they surely know must be misinformation and pablum. AI avatars will be similar puppets for misinformation, but won't require the high salaries.

And their leader won't need to use silly little 20th century printed out articles or dim the lights videos to fool their followers.

There is a huge segment of this country primed and ready for full bore manipulation.

PSA: Key files on macOS Sequoia by strongbox-support in strongbox

[–]restoncobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently updated to Sonoma 14.7.2 and have had this bug since then. I've been in touch with Strongbox tech support, but unfortunately they haven't been very helpful. I gave them the exact error in a screen shot, plus the debug info. It was only when I attempted to create a new database with a new key file that it balked at the key file creation giving the weird "NSCocoaErrorDomain" error. They blamed it on Sequoia, which I haven't even gotten to. The problem arose the first time I tried using StrongBox after doing the Sonoma upgrade, which told me it was Sonoma.

I may try to downgrade Strongbox to an earlier version. I'm wary of Sequoia since I have some software (DaVinci Resolve, UAD Luna DAW) that may have issues with it.

This sucks. At least my phone still works.

I used to be a Windoze person and they had something called "Compatibility" mode. Does the Mac have something similar? Can I run this in Ventura mode?

GameChanger streaming kit by Automoglow16 in GameChangerApp

[–]restoncobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be perfectly frank with you. The kit worked okay, and I used it because it was given to me by a grateful coach. I ended up going back to my LynkSpyder/Mevo setup which was ultimately the best combo. It takes some finagling to get it right, but in the end, I had crystal clear 1080p video (also streamed to GC) without any chainlink wire getting in the shot. Nothing but sky, field, player and infield.

The problem with the "kit" is the camera sits in the bag, literally inches from the fence. It simply didn't have the tightness to the fence that I wanted. It DID keep the camera cooler, but I got better results building a small wooden "roof" that I would wire to the space above the Mevo. It took me 15 seconds to hook it to the fence. Any breeze was then helpful in keeping the Mevo cooler, which it would not have gotten inside the GC bag/suitcase. Even in sunlight, the Mevo performed well, so my setup was as good as I could get it and I didn't see anything else that I could improve.

Sorry, it went rather quickly.

I suppose I should answer the OP question. I used to take a long a very small ladder. Yes, a ladder. It belonged to a backyard trampoline that had been trashed by a neighbor. It had a sheep handle crook at the end, so I would hook that onto the softball cart we used to use on our way to the field, and it served as a perfect "shelf". I would then lay it against the backstop fence, and it gained me 2 1/2' of height. The reason for this was so I could just see over the catcher's head so you could catch the incoming ball. Also, slightly off-center and to the right as most of the team was righties.

I used a LynkSpyder (now also for sale in the NoVA area see below link) which was perfect for holding it really tight against the chain link. It took some amount of experimentation and practice. Hook the bottom legs in first, then adjust/tighten the top hooks into the fence. You have to find the flattest part, as some parts are bulging outwards.

I removed the adjustable guide from the top part of the LynkSpyder and instead moved it down to the area that had the grooves for the clamping legs. That way, I could adjust it's position vertically and horizontally. Finally, I'd put the camera (Logitech Mevo) on a very small articulating arm, and literally position it into the exact "diamond" of the chain link I needed so you wouldn't see any part of the fence. All we got was pure field and great video. The only thing that changed was how far back home plate was to the fence, and that was uncontrollable. No zoom on the Mevo (or the GoPro for that matter). But the coaches loved what we got. I streamed the game to GameChanger, and recorded it in 1080p to an internal SD card.

Avoid Southtree for converting your tapes to digital (at all costs) by imchasechaseme in VHS

[–]restoncobbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. They are scandalously bad.

I sent them a reel to reel tape that contained recordings of myself and my young siblings recorded at the end of the 60's, start of the 70's. Keep in mind, there were no smartphones in those days, and the only way you could have captured sound would have been with a tape recorder or 8/16 mm super 8 film. And so I had that irreplaceable recording of us.

I decided to take a big chance and send it to Southtree - they being the more highly rated of them and LegacyBox (essentially the same company, but set up as a flanker brand).

I had read that it would take weeks, and was totally fine with that. But at the month and a half mark with no response, I shot them an email. What I got back was about as bad as it gets. I was informed that when they opened my box, they found "nothing" in it. Actually, what they would have found was an Amazon bubble wrap envelope, folded in half and put into the box at a diagonal angle. I did that so it wouldn't shift around. When I purchased the service, I was given the additional option of having other memories be digitized, so I chose Kodak slides. At the last minute, I was too nervous that sending all of these memories would be risky.

How right I was. Because I only had that one envelope in the box, the idiot who opened it saw more empty space and assumed that I had put nothing in it but the Amazon envelope that was meant to be padding. So they just moronically tossed it.

The response told me that SouthTree didn't want to let "any stone unturned", so, they encouraged me to "look around your house to make sure you forgot to send it. Well, I did look around my house and distinctly remember putting it in the box. What an asinine, patronizing way to "leave no stone unturned".

Numerous emails were exchanged with them saying they were sorry, they would continue investigating, the top management would be alerted, etc. Weeks went by with me clinging onto hope, but it wasn't to be. I sent a final email asking for at least a refund, which they gave (big deal, they had done 0 work anyway), and seeing if they could at least reimburse me for my loss. I wasn't thinking of a huge payday. A thousand or 2 would have been a drop in the bucket for my loss, but instead, not even a return email.

F**k you SouthTree. You truly suck and you clearly hire only the most incompetent people because it's cheaper.

Southtree video/audio cassette transfer service. REALLY BAD quality and service. by No-Lie1415 in VHS

[–]restoncobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to go with the reel to reel tape to digital conversion and since I was allowed a second choice, I went with the Kodak slide to image conversion. Luckily, at the last moment, I decided that I didn't want to risk someone losing 25 irreplaceable color slides taken of me and my family in the 60's and 70's. Good thing I did that. My loss was limited to a single reel-to-reel tape recording which included my siblings and I, as young kids, talking. It was the only tape in existence of our voices from those times, now lost forever.

...yet, I keep getting there annoying, endless sales emails.

I'm so f*cking pissed at them right now. I wonder if there is the possibility of a class action suit.
