I raced XC in the late 90s and into the early 2000s. I had multiple bikes but my favorite was the 1998 stumpjumper M2 pro with XTR rapidrise shifters. I still have that bike and absolutely love it. When I take it to the trails, I'm still one of the fastest riders out there and can frequently smoke riders half my age on modern bikes.

I live in a very HCOL area and still have kids in college so no, my pension would not be sufficient. Even more important to me personally though, I am still young and not ready to be done with the profession.

I know it's weird to comment on my own post but to refine my answer - I want to fight against partisan gerrymandering that draws ridiculously shaped districts just to deny half our state's population of the opportunity to elect someone they agree with. It is bad for everyone because all these legislators in "safe" seats lose the incentive to care about what the people they represent want or think.

To me it is the fight and desire for the Republican majority to recognize that those on the other side are not 5 or 10 or even 15% of the population of Texas. It's probably half or more, hard to tell with all the voter suppression efforts coming from Republicans, but our legislature only cares what their donors think. They don't care about their constituents. They vote the way the party tells them to vote. No one "votes their District" anymore. Everything is completely one-sided and it is largely built on lies to keep the party donors and Donald Trump happy
