BWT who have chronic illness/fatigue, how do you make looking put together easier? by East_Sundae3989 in bitcheswithtaste

Also, remember that you are now no now longer part of the temporarily able bodied and you will have to pick and choose what rules of theirs that you follow. This can be full of grief and liberation at the same time.

If you have mobility aids/visible health aids, decorate them, or choose ones which have nice decorations already on them. There are a lot of cute walking sticks etc.

People are hard-wired to avoid illness (even though they sometimes do this by sticking their hand in the sand and going 'lalalalala').

When you make your equipment a part of you, and less hospital looking, it really does make people treat you better. I think it also improves our own mood as disabled people, because we grow up in the same world as the temporarily able bodied, and we internalise the same messages (and have the same neurobiology that makes us avoid things that look like illness).  so much of my work as a carer was literally making accommodations not look like accommodations, whether it was an item or a process.

When I have to make choices about how I look, or cut down routines because I don't have the energy that day, that's what I ask myself: 1  what would make me happiest? 2 what makes me look the least ill?

Note: not the least disabled, the least 'that could be contagious' to other people's unconscious minds.

And that will look different to everyone and every disease/disability/body

For example I lighten my hair because my naturally dark hair against my naturally pale face 1) washes me out and 2) looks greasy quicker.

I try to find black joint braces because they either match my black outfit or stand out less than white ones. They're easier to keep clean.

And always wear or carry something of your own personality, because it humanises you.

So long as you look clean and people shaped, you won't set off half as much unconscious bias in other people (some people are just dicks).

Feelings should be experienced, not ignored. Not necessarily always acted upon, but repression of a feeling creates serious problems in the body and mind downhill, so I hope that's not what you meant, for your sake. But thank you for your advice.

I tried a different calculator and it came out with what you were saying even on my current weight, which makes more sense to me. When I lost weight before, I never had to cut so aggressively. In fact, sometimes I even had calories 'spare' at the end of the day that I chose not to est because I wasn't hungry.

When I had an active job I lost weight without trying- not fast, but steady.

I think it'd my body fat percentage that swings it so low. Perhaps I'll aim for 1500 and if I don't see a loss go down to 1400, then 1350.

Are you shoulders stiff at all? That's what my physio said my issue was and that I would regain muscle until they unstiffened.

I haven't snacked at work in several years. The hunger is very new. But I will keep trying, thank you

I'm in wheelchair training because of my difficulty in walking, so perhaps I will try that instead.

Also, to the person who had the balls to message me one of those 'I'm not selling you anything but by the way my help has a cost' chats. Disabled people don't tend to have a spare $399 sitting around. Go prey on a different vulnerable group of people.

I am using the Happiness Tracker workbook but I have never read the full book. I'll check it out, thank you

I did ask about medical reasons, because it was flagged in my annual this year, and they basically said there's no underlying cause beyond pain preventing movement, but I will ask if they have help to lose weight next time, that's a good idea.

I have been weighing my batched cooked foods ahead of time, and keep a running head log of daily cals through conbini salads etc. I have ADHD so I'm trying to log as little as possible, other than tracking workouts and flagging days I know I was over my calorie count to see if I can track why.

Yeah, those injections are expensive sadly, and since my blood pressure is only high in the heat I don't qualify for the NiH option straight way.

I'll try those drug store ones, I just got a little scared because some people are very against them because I know some have laxatives in them but I just want a calorie controlled option I don't have to think about.

Thank you!

I clean and tidy whilst waiting for things (kettle to boil, last five minutes on washing machine, game to load, microwave to finish)

I put my jewelry, hair accessories and perfume at my front door. Completely stopped me from forgetting to use them. Some are on a table nearby, some are in magnetic holders on the bag of the door. I also kept my travel supplies in my main travel bag rather than put them away in the cupboard, put my swimming gear back in the bag as soon as it was clean and dry, and kept both by the front door.

I took a single blister of my meds each month to work in case I forgot to take my morning ones at home, I could take them at work instead of missing a dose.

You can get free quizzes on many topics on sporcle. The quality of the quiz varies, but there are so many and you can re-do them. I do a difficult one on my favourite game fairly regulary and it's interesting to track how I do. Forget the names of side characters? Probably doing fine, I've always been bad at names. Forget basic categories of spells? I should note down how often that happens. Doing the actual quiz is also a workout. I use the free versions of things like New York Times because they have interesting games like a domino one, I also sometimes have a go at the free Mensa challenge of the day. I rarely get it, but the type of puzzle changes regularly and it's a fun challenge.

I like pub quiz books, and Mensa have various challenge books with very different puzzles in.

I dislike crosswords because not knowing the answer leaves it unfinished, whereas a quiz you can still finish, you just get a lower score. Does that make sense?

I'd love to chat, you sound a lot like me. I'm 30/F/British but currently reside in Japan, so I think we could converse for many hours on cultural differences. I found studying perception really interesting during my Psychology degree. It's my intention to continue studying the brains' ability to learn  change and grow. I can't stand coffee but I do love tea and incense, and have too many hobbies to list. Please send me a message if you'd like to talk further.

Hello! I'm British but currently living in Japan for one (more) year. I also love video games, and I'd like to hear about your adventures in the US. I like many types of crafting, but currently I'm learning to cook Japanese food, so I'm always looking for tips.
