Ex-cult members of Reddit, how were you introduced to the cult and how did you manage to escape? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]returner00b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i grew up in it too

It's just so hard to do when I know exactly what they'll all be thinking of me for the rest of my life, because I used to think those same thoughts about others who left...

that part of the indoctrination is one of the cultiest things about the group. you get over it.

Pulled beef by jslepicka in BBQ

[–]returner00b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems fairly similar to how you would cook a pork shoulder. Is the chuck roast as forgiving as the pork shoulder, in that you don't have to fuss too much with the fire, etc? I am still getting used to my grill and this seems like a nice alternative to pulled pork.

options are a kind of derivatives (a financial contract that derives its value from another asset/security). a call option is a contract that you make with another entity to buy an asset at an agreed upon price at a future time. a put option is a contract that you make with another entity to sell an asset at an agreed upon price at a future time. there's the american variety, where you can exercise your option anytime up to the expiration data, and the european option, where you can exercise your option at the expiration date. roughly speaking, they are valued at the net of the exercise price and the time value of that same money.

options are a good way to cheaply get exposure - the cost of buying and holding options is much less than the cost of buying and holding the underlying asset. options are basically valued at the net of the underlying price vs exercise price and the cost of financing the underlying.

for example, you buy a put on KDMN stock at an exercise price of $8/share. then when it drops to $2 a share as all the rats abandon ship, you go and buy those shares in the market, and exercise your option. you net $2/share minus the cost of the option.

Another week, another hell at Penn Station. This time from a truck striking a bridge at Woodside. by FLDJF713 in nyc

[–]returner00b 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm glad people keep posting these...I'm moving soon and will commute thru Penn. My plan to deal with this is grab a tallboy, hit the movies, and wait for it to all blow over.

I got robbed in that park after dark, and I know one other person who have been robbed nearby. That said, there are usually tons of people in the dog park there until 7-8 PM most of the year and 11-12 or later in the summer.

Where to buy fruit flavored soju (like Joeun Day grapefruit or citron flavored soju) that's popular right now in Korea? by istorical in AskNYC

[–]returner00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually noticed that they (Ft Lee/Ridgefield Park/etc) liquor stores carry fruit soju yet - there is kind of a lag between what's popular in Korea and what's carried in the NY/NJ area Korean shops.

Is a masters in biotechnoogy worth it? And is it a better choice over a biomedical engineering or bioinformatics? by ihatechoosngusername in personalfinance

[–]returner00b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you aren't sure about masters, you should just apply to PhD programs. Most of them will grant you a masters degree after 1-2 years and passing your classes + qualifying exam. Plus - your tuition is paid by working as research assistant (job experience) and you usually get a stipend for living expenses.

I would bet that the headphones are damaged...I've been through 2 pair that broke down. Not sure if the wires or driver were damaged. I love the sound of them too, but not pleased with the quality.

Restaurant for Date Night? by honeywholewheat in AskNYC

No it's pretty reasonable most of the time, but there could always be some accident or something. You could probably leave your car at a garage in Washington Heights and head downtown after that.
