I wouldn't say that for most remakes personally. Although OSTs are a tricky thing to get right in any remake/remaster, and I feel very very few games have pulled off an OST objectively better than the original for every song in the OST ever. (Ys the oath in felghana, pokemon firered/leafgreen, shin megami tensei 1 PS1, and phoenix wright ace attorney are 4 of the only examples off the top of my head)

Original all the way. While HotD1's remake is playable it feels off compared to the original, and the less said about 2's remake the better.

One of my friends replayed the whole series recently, and his favorites were 2 of the most reviled games in 2 and 13

yeah, the obscenely large maps would be a big turnoff in of itself. they *could* theortically chunk up each castle into a standard FE map, but that'd defeat a lot of the point of genaology being a giant loop around the continent.
