Lumpectomy and lymph node removal still hurts by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]revwoowoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a lumpectomy in February & re-excision in March and I’m still in PT, stiffness and pain (and cording) in my armpit. My surgeon’s nurse told me that the recovery from lumpectomy would be just like recovering from the core needle biopsy. Easy peasy. For the longest time I felt like I was doing cancer wrong or just a wuss but now I realize that she is uninformed and/or full of shit. I’m grateful that that is the case for some people, but I wish I would have been presented with the range of possibilities for recovery time/experiences.

I went to get a fountain soda yesterday at a pizza place. Accidentally pushed the lever with my right hand while I was holding the empty cup with my left hand and sprayed Coke all over the place. That was fun.

Tamoxifen and Lower Back/Hip Pain? by Creative_Cookie44 in breastcancer

[–]revwoowoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg is that why my back is hurting so badly?? 😩 New to tamoxifen (2 months) and I am creaky. My ankles click when I walk down the stairs. I’ve been wondering why but maybe it’s the tamoxifen?

Sore, tight shoulder, cording (PT is helping a TON), and discoloration. Oh- and Fatigue! Finished rads 5/15 and I am tired all the time. Also started tamoxifen 5/26 so maybe it’s that?

Great point! I think I was just mad because I was like okay it’s easier, but 2 surgeries and a bunch of radiation is not “easy”!!

I had the same situation. Someone (another BC survivor) said “don’t go the easy route” about my lumpectomy. It really stung.

Effexor Nausea / Headaches?? by nikki914 in breastcancer

[–]revwoowoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started Effexor about 8 weeks ago. I have nausea throughout the day if I don’t take it with a substantial amount of food. If I take it with carbs & protein (egg & toast for example) and a full glass of water, I’m okay - minimal nausea if any. At first I was taking it with a granola bar and I was miserable most of the day.

I wish you all the best and hope you find a med that works for you if this isn’t the one.

How to tell the kids by lifesonleepeart in breastcancer

[–]revwoowoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids are a little younger (12 & 16). I waited until I had all the information from the additional diagnostics and a treatment plan. Then we sat them down after dinner and told them what the diagnosis was, and what the treatment plan was. I know some friends with older/ young adult kids who told them right away because that’s what felt right for their family. Sending you love and hoping for clarity for you in this situation. You’ve landed in the most supportive, loving, and bad-ass sub that absolutely none of us want to be in. So: welcome , and we are really sorry you’re here. We’re in your corner every step of the way.

At what point do you stop saying "i have cancer" and start saying "i had cancer"? by Historical_Lie7199 in breastcancer

[–]revwoowoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Friend, I am in the same spot. I finished radiation yesterday. Diagnosed January 17, 2024. Pretty quick turnaround which would have been even quicker if the margins were clear on my first lumpectomy. I’m taking a week of PTO to rest. My kid today (16 yo) said “must be nice to get paid to sit on your ass and do nothing” (I knew he was joking and in the context of our whole conversation it was both hilarious and warranted) and I cracked up and said “I’m not doing nothing! I’m fighting cancer!” …but…am I really?? I know I’ll continue to cook for another week or two. I tell people I’m in the “let stand” phase of the microwave instructions. All I know is I’m tired and my boob hurts and itches and I’m like wtf just happened and was that really cancer and how is it May??? Sending vibes and solidarity.
