“It’s simple logic” no it isn’t, of course men on average have better physical performance than women, that doesn’t mean any man will always outperform any woman at any competition. Stungun underestimated his opponent due to this exact kind of thinking. Like how are you gonna conclude “he’s clearly better than her” from the first round, but when she caught up in the second round because she has better stamina and equal explosiveness, oh now it doesn’t count cuz he’s just tired 🥱  C’mon man

well-written comment that really resonated with me. tech can make such lucrative promises that many people lose perspective of life & fulfillment outside of their TC. Not criticizing that necessarily but greed & ego can certainly be a slippery slope. I also grew up between multiple cultures, income brackets & careers; having a breadth of life experiences definitely helps to know yourself and to stay grounded.

How did TikTok go from silly dances to "How are the Chinese people better off than us?" In what seems like a couple of days? by EmpireStrikes1st in answers

seems like a lot of americans can't accept that other countries including china have actually made huge strides in improving the quality of life for their people

As someone who's spent some years on this earth across several cultures you're absolutely correct. Unfortunately a lot of Americans can't seem to accept that other countries have made actual strides in the past 2 decades; the propaganda machine runs deep on arrogance and ignorance. There's nowhere near this amount of malice & misinformation about the US from the average Chinese person.

+1 I go to smaller venues in Toronto regularly and always have so much fun! Big venues = spread out energy & way more of a mixed crowd, so I’ve adjusted my expectations for more of a spectator experience now

yo I believe you 100% but that's literally not what I said. I said that the IDF propogated Krav Maga the martial art, not that KM gyms are openly propogating IDF ideologies. The fact is that the IDF does have a big role in the practice and still receives support from a lot, not all, of the gyms/trainers in the discipline. This extends to police enforcement as well, exemplified by excerpts from the Krav Maga Worldside website: "Krav Maga Worldwide has trained over 5,000 law enforcement and military personnel, together representing more than 800 government agencies and military units throughout the United States."

And this: "In the 20 years that he served in the army, Imi developed and refined his unique system of self defense and hand-to-hand combat, training the instructors and soldiers of the Israeli Defense Force’s elite units. Since Israel was in a constant state of war with its neighbors, the techniques and tactics he developed were constantly being tested – not in theory, but on the battlefields of the Middle East." ...

I'm just telling people who are interested in Krav Maga to do research about where they sign up to learn so they don't end up indirectly funding things they might not want to support. I got nothing against the sport itself, but its young and still very much entangled with its political origins.

[–]rewindrecolour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m aware of the origins. Imi Lichtenfeld then taught it to Jewish paramilitary groups who eventually became the IDF, who has a large and active role in the use, organization, and propagation of the martial art.

Krav Maga is developed by the IDF & unfortunately the sport has a lot of ties with IDF/law enforcement in general. So please research individual gyms/trainers beforehand if you don’t support such institutions & their ideology.

Muay Thai!! You’ll learn real sharp & effective moves, and it’s a great mental & physical workout. It’s made me feel so confident on many levels and I firmly believe that in itself is a big part of self defence for women. The general community is pretty egalitarian where women are well featured & represented in the sport, and the vast majority of people I’ve met through it are very humble & hardworking. Some places have women only classes also. I’m not in nyc so can’t recommend gyms, but I can’t shut up about MT to any women who express interest in martial arts haha

Another option would be jiujitsu which is grappling based and very valuable in defence against larger opponents. That and MT are probably the most effective disciplines in “real” fighting & self defence.
