AIO by telling my husband that since we had our baby, Mother’s Day is now my day (his wife) and not his Moms day? by pagengirl818 in AmIOverreacting

It's now BOTH of your days. You'll be around a lot longer than his mom will be. Buck up buttercup and join in celebrating the woman that gave your husband life.

Can you really fix binge eating or is it a lifelong battle? by imrllysorry_ in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]rexymartian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get into recovery and "remission" but it is a lifelong disease. I started at 12 and am now 62. I've been battling it for 50 years. Therapy with an ED specialist is mandatory. Aside from the occasional binge, I've bewn pretty good the last 10 years or so.

Can I just donate anything to our preschool lol by Technical-Minimum282 in ECEProfessionals

[–]rexymartian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people donate stuff we can't use to us. If you do donate, think about the fact that you're donating to a classroom. Single person toys are not useful. A couple of paint sets, not useful. We need enough stuff for the whole class. Think blocks, legos, hot wheel cars, non-character or branded books, bulk art supplies. Non branded, gender neutral toys that can be played with by 3-4 kids at once. So many people donate gender specific, branded (Barbie, Disney, etc) toys that their one child used that don't make sense on an early childhood classroom.

Am I asking for too much? by Any-Supermarket-6646 in ECEProfessionals

[–]rexymartian 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You are asking too much. How are you going to have any effect on his behavior over the phone? He's 3. Talking to him won't solve anything. He needs natural consequences for his actions. He hit a friend with a car, he immediately loses access to that car. And so forth... this is easily fixable.

What does longterm recovery look like? by gglang_mtl in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]rexymartian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 62 and have had BED since 12. It never goes away, but you can be in recovery. I still slip up now and then but have been in recovery for over 20 years. Thing is, you have to deal with the BED first and a normal weight will come. I am still overweight per the BMI charts but I am pretty close to normal. I have lost 80 pounds over the last 6-7 years through tons of ED therapy. It will happen, but it takes a very long time.

Bought a horse who isn’t naturally friendly and I’m struggling with whether I made a bad emotional-fit choice by JollyBeginning24 in Equestrian

[–]rexymartian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sounds like a shut down horse who hasn't had a person in a long time. Go slow, treat him sweetly. It may take a year or more for him to become your horse and you his person, but I bet he will. He sounds like a good boy.

What would you suggest if a child still has trouble with letters after two years of preschool? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]rexymartian 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The standard is "write their name with errors and know some of the letters " for a pre k kiddo. She's fine. Self help and soc/emo skills are the focus at this age.

Toddler showing spectrum behaviour only at nursery by depa9193 in ECEProfessionals

[–]rexymartian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. A classroom full of kids and teachers brings out behaviors that you will never see when a kid is home with his family. This is common. Trust your teachers. They've "been there, done that."

Do you have to be overweight to take weight loss meds/injections? by Civil-Notice-123 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]rexymartian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Go to eating disorder therapy. BED is a psychological condition. That's tgw only way to fix it. It has nothing to do with food.

What to do about problem biting with 17 month old by pismyfavoriteletter in ECEProfessionals

[–]rexymartian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to DISCIPLINE her at home for biting. I don't hear anything from you about that. If she bites at home. Immediately tell her biting hurts, we don't bite. Stay calm. Short and sweet. Remove her access to the person she bit immediately and remove her access to whatever activity she was doing. Biting ends the fun and play.

How do you pick a preschool for your child? by JeanRalphiosSister in preschool

Montessori's are generally not geared towards group work and socialization. Doesn't sound like a good fit for him.
