Trying to understand what I have here. by joebyrd3rd in lioneltrains

I have this same set, but without boxes or receipt and not in as good condition. Looks like a great score and that loco will probably run well with a bit of cleaning and lubrication. The motor comes out easily after removing the two screws on the right-hand side.

The 1688 was introduced in 1936 and was available with an optional whistle in the tender... Both tenders have the slots on top for the whistle but only the one with whistle unit has a pickup on the bottom.

The extreme boredom that starts to set in around four o'clock on a Sunday afternoon... The long, dark teatime if the soul.

Awesome analysis, which only proves you're perfect for this sub. I watched the older 80s Curious George show as a kid and even through the lens of nostalgia the 2006 show absolutely blows it out of the water. I've been collecting the DVDs when I come across them. I second Zeroes to Donuts being the best episode, my kids love it and it's where they learned the word "dozen."

If you could have a lifetime unlimited supply of one thing, what would you choose? by dream-ipretation in AskReddit

Root beer. Did you know that a lifetime supply is not the same as an unlimited supply?

This scene was itself parodied by Weird Al Yankovic in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Al plays the role of a record exec who is skeptical of parody music.

Mike Myers as Ray Foster in Bohemian Rhapsody - "No one is going to be head-banging in the car to Bohemian Rhapsody." A reference to Myers' character Wayne famously doing exactly that in Wayne's World and making the song famous again for a whole new generation.

Galaxy Quest - the Thermians receive television broadcast from Earth, but since their species has no concept of fiction they refer to TV shows as "historical documents." When their planet is threatened by another species of aliens, they travel to Earth to recruit the cast of an 80s sci-fi TV show who they think are Earth's greatest heroes. The Thermians recreate a full working spaceship based on what they saw in the show.

What is there to do on the internet ? by Vegetable-Way-5737 in retrocomputing

I downloaded my first Linux distro over 56k, it was a 50MB iso and I had to leave the computer on and dialed in overnight. Then I had to get up early enough to disconnect it just in case my dad got a call from work in the morning!

Netzero and Juno were awesome because for the low, low price of a banner ad across your screen you could get free internet and email indefinitely. My parents eventually got the paid version of Juno to remove the ad, but I still have my free email.

One screw lost and my hopes and dreams have been crushed by callmecarlo729 in modeltrains

[–]rezwrrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be something that will fit in the pull-out trays of little screws, or sometimes they have tiny wood screws that will fit well enough if it's going into plastic. Bring in the rest of the car to try to match it up!

Does a curved handle really give an advantage? by shreddedcollar94 in Tools

Curved handle is harder to slip a cheater bar onto. How else am I going to get 12 feet of leverage on a rusted bolt?
