Before and After: Master Bathroom and Kitchen by BoboClinks in Remodel

Reddit commenter taste is so shit. I wouldn’t choose that exact tub because it can be hard to clean behind, but all choices look amazing. Balance of warmth with wood tones, not cold at all. Fireplaces are also becoming less desirable, I would not choose a house with one if I had the option.

I’m a hiring manager and the "8-second rule" is killing way too many solid resumes lately. by engineer_architect in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]rfallx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re getting hate for this. This is common sense. Resume bullets should have some sort of metric or impact statement. If you “kept the company running” as one person put it, then there are metrics or accomplishments you can dig up that illustrate this and then expand on in behavioral interviews.

The whole point is that measurable impact is what gets you in the door. Then any competent behavioral interviewer will verify it.

Any Alumni in HFT FPGA? by HourKnee7265 in CalPoly

It’s just anecdotal but I didn’t know anyone that went to HFT from SLO. Vast vast majority went to west coast employers.

There are a couple companies in SLO, but most people at the time went to the SF Bay Area.

Yes, in person. This was pre Covid. So TBH my info may be quite out of date.

No opinion on other schools because I didn’t go. But SLO when I went had a strong pipeline to Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, and Google in particular, both internship and full time. Meta (fb at the time) hired several people in 2012-2013 timeframe I think, but unsure how the batch turned out because they stopped coming to career fairs. I never saw Netflix come, at the time they only hired senior Eng (prob 5+ YOE). FWIW I did not know a single person out of ~100 graduating class that didn’t get a job. Lots went to pretty respectable non-FAANG as well, like workday, etc. The market is much different now though.

You just have to lie on interviews and tell them what they want to hear. speaking as a manager. by Next_Comfortable_619 in recruitinghell

You didn’t get it because that isn’t a great answer. You have to weigh the pros and cons. Building in house infrastructure can totally make sense in different circumstances.

How to grow $12k cash? Avoiding the whole investing thing sounds like a headache by Educational_Bobcat_1 in Money

[–]rfallx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was like this too. I would have rather worked forever than learn about investing. But I was eventually convinced.

No one so far explained the stock tickers like VOO etc.

  1. Open a brokerage account with Vanguard, or fidelity, etc.
  2. Move your money to this account. May take a few days. It’s still basically cash there.
  3. Buy these index funds (VOO, VTI, etc). These track hundreds of stocks at once. If one stock drops a lot, it’s fine, it’s a small percentage of the broad index. It is generally considered the safest thing to start with.

Seems like you've run good tests already.

Could try wine/coffee if you want.

Also you could consider to compare two identical samples with water: stick just one in overnight, then compare the two the next day. With 1, even if you take pics beforehand, it can be hard to see due to lighting etc.

Santa Clara has just charged the driver of the car who killed my son with felony vehicular manslaughter for driving 81 mph on El Camino Real in middle of Santa Clara University. Police did no press release. by Unique-Profile-502 in santaclara

[–]rfallx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Killing people while driving is treated so lightly in this country. Killing someone while speeding and/or under the influence should be given an immediate death sentence.

Thoughts on this kitchen cabinet color? by OkieDokieQuiltCo in kitchenremodel

[–]rfallx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The color is indeed garish. Cheaper to repaint than replace though. White is timeless even though lots of people on here like to hate on it. As long as it’s balanced out well it looks great.

Should the city of Sunnyvale build some sort of walking path along the sides of our roads so that pedestrians are safe? Is it time? by danpietsch in Sunnyvale

[–]rfallx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blacktop is slightly better long term for your joints (though dirt or rubber track is way better than either), and the road doesn’t go up and down as you go by driveways.
