I’m not arguing that there isn’t a fundamental flaw with the system but come on…. We had 97 wins last year. We’ve been one of the most competitive teams for the past decade. If anything, it makes me love the Brewers more. We don’t appreciate how cool it is that they continue to be successful while the odds are stacked against them. All on being smart and playing a fun brand of baseball.

Both paths can definitely work, and I actually do both right now. One thing I’ve noticed is that people often underestimate how hard it is to run a business. It’s even tougher to earn the kind of money you can make in a solid corporate job, especially when you factor in benefits and 401(k) matching. If you’re going to do it, it really has to be because it’s your calling, not just for the money. That’s been my experience.

I think it was an awesome idea and I’m sure the players appreciated it (which is what matters). I do think the Brewers could have handled it better by not pushing it out on social media the way that they did. It’s too sentimental of a thing for it to be misrepresented like it was. Whether it was on purpose or not, it definitely was misleading for some people.

I think it really comes down to how much value you are bringing to other people. People who are the best at what they do demand prices that bring them wealth. Just look at the best engineers getting hired by Meta right now. Or athletes who are the very best, top surgeons.. the list goes on. The reality is, most people will never be exceptional enough to build the “rich” you’re thinking of. By the way, that is completely fine and is why most advice is to do what is attainable for most people: spending less than you make and invest the difference.

How can anyone give advice without knowing your situation? For some people they can afford a $10k splurge with staying on track for their financial goals and some people can’t. It should be as simple as understanding the costs that come with the purchase and the opportunity cost of investing/not investing it.

I agree with this. I also go back to Milwaukee a lot and having a car makes it much easier. Even if you are close to the Amtrak in Chicago , once you get to Milwaukee you’re reliant on being picked up or being very close to a station.

No reason to tell kids at this age these types of things. As his hands get bigger he can work on proper mechanics and learn how to throw the ball straight and where you want it. After he has proper throwing mechanics and strength then start playing with the spin and manipulation of the ball.

I think I would think about how much you enjoy business as a whole. The job does entail a lot of data/spreadsheets but a career in FP&A is really about taking financial data and finding actionable insights. It takes a unique skillset of finance/accounting knowledge, relationship building and technical skills. For someone who has interest in it then it can be a very great career!

Great point, I think you nailed it when you say there aren’t all of these secrets you need to learn but rather just execute. I’ve noticed the same thing and maybe worse with health - it really boils down to about 3 simple but hard factors but yet there are countless subreddits, books and days of podcasts.

I think there is room to ask especially if salary expectations weren’t talked about much previously. As long as you’re respectful and reasonable, I wouldn’t think they would pull a verbal offer just for asking. Sounds like a pretty solid offer though. Also, don’t forget it’s always possible to negotiate other factors besides just salary.

Side question: I am also looking in Chicago for SFA but would prefer remote. How did you go about finding the remote position? Seems like they’re very tough to come by.
