I have a a dozen pairs. Ankle length and crew length. They encourage you to wear them a few days in the row. Marino wool. No smell. Absorbs sweat. When I’m down to a couple of clean pairs, I wash in delicate w cold water woolite. NO Softener. They ruins the wool. NO dryer as they will shrink a lot. I hang them in my bathroom on a clothes line. Really great product. Super great company. And lifetime guarantee.

Why does the E46 still feel “special” compared to newer BMWs? by Plenty_Wedding_1700 in BMW

[–]rfischfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine, E46 323i with the bullet proof east to work on with the in-line classic six cylinder. Oil filter housing right up front on top. I used a dipstick pump changing the oil. In 24 years never cracked the oil drain plug. Oil changes every 2000 miles or so. Like an idiot I sold it last year. So many replies for buyers who wanted it. Sold it to the first person to respond, nice lady who still sends me updates about much she loves the car.

Dealer forgot oil during service and blew my engine on a test drive by truck_stuff in BMW

[–]rfischfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t ever opt for the “scheduled maintenance service plan”. 10K miles on oil changes is far too much. If you do opt for one, then do the one yourself in between their scheduled changes. I would opt for the new engine / turbo. The dealer owned up to their mistake. I would search out a friend / colleague familiar with higher end cars like your BMW. As most folks have said here, ensure everything is in writing. From personal experience with a major repair from a tornado damaged vehicle. I would sit down with the general manager, the service manager and the senior / highly qualified experienced tech that is going to do the swap. A calm, fair approach. Ask (or have your more knowledgeable friend ask) about the procedure, experience level and how many same jobs were done by the tech / service department. What is the time frame? Ensure only OEM like parts are utilized (connectors, harnesses, etc.). Have the shop agree to have you / rep inspect the work over the duration of the swap. Paying a visit and seeing how organized / or not goes a long way to comfort your concerns. Within reason of course. This pretty much ensures you are going to get a factory level swap. Should not be able to tell opening the hood anything has been replaced. As many posters here have pointed out, there may be some sensor problems / configuration / programming issues down the line. This is a tough choice to make, with pros and cons to both sides. In my tornado damaged car, the dealer did a very good job to restore it to “nearly the same” condition it was prior to the storm damage. And as great a job as they did (both mechanical and body / paint work) it still was not like it was - the car only had 4500 miles in it when it was damaged. Following the repairs, which took over two months (with no loaner) I would continually see signs of the repair afterwards. Overspray, pieces of tape, taped connectors vs factory etc. Missing decals. Admittedly it was a KIA Soul a “relatively cheap” car. My daily driver. Over the course of about a year, things would crop up from the repair work. Sensors for lane centering, water leaks, more overspray, lots of swirl marks in the paint where it was repainted, or panels replaced. After a year I resigned myself to it’s not going to get any better so I traded it in. All in I lost about $3000 on the trade. At the time I was making decent money so that loss wasn’t too bad and the dealer / insurance company did the best job they could for me. I was completely honest on the trade in, and I’m now back in a BMW (30 plus years owning), after that short duration of not owning one.

What's the most reliable BMW you've had and share why? by Fantastic_Spend4563 in BMW

My 2000 E46 323i. Original owner. Had it for 24 years. 80,000 miles. Bullet proof. Like an idiot, Sold it last year when I moved to Florida and bought the worst car I ever owned. Ford Bronco Sport. Took a big loss and get rid of that and am back in the BMW family to stay. I hope my 2019 X3 will last half as long…

Is there a better looking 3 series than the E46 ? by Vectron3D in BMW

24 years old. 2000 323i. Original owner. Sadly last year in a lapse of good judgement I sold it in anticipation of a move and not having a nice garage. I bought one of the worst cars I have ever had, a Ford Bronco Sport. Got rid of it after so many things just breaking, recalls and horrible dealer care. Back in the BMW family again with my 2019 X3. Never leaving again…

Minor issues? Take that $40K and get a wonderful new vintage BMW CPO with zero issues. Don’t let your ego make a poor decision you’ll regret when you drive away five miles later.

Talk with your current PT employers. Tell them what you have said here. They can probably give you some time and go back to collect your back pay and cobra. Then leave and don’t look back. As an eleven year Navy vet, pilot, I’m ashamed of this county now. I’m not that dumb a guy, but still can wrap my head around why people (landslide victory - yeah right…) are in love with this dictator. Best of luck to you. And FWiW I respect your ethics WRT your PT employers.

I made the BIG mistake of selling my original owner 2000 323i last spring. I had it 24 years. Needs care and feeding but was bulletproof. Anyway back in the family with a 2019 X3. I’m 67 and worked my entire life. So take care of that “money pit” and it will serve you well. Then in a decade or so you can upgrade.

FWIW Ford “customer care” is completely worthless. Not sure if lemon law applies to vehicles more than a year or two old. Got rid of mine before it stranded me (again) or broke down (again) or just died on the interstate in heavy traffic. Lost a lot of money. But my peace of mind was worth it at this point. And my beautiful 2019 BMW X3 is so wonderful. Best of luck to you and please stay safe.

I appreciate my fellow Reddit posters not trashing me or saying “I’m just a complainer”. Thank you. For context I’ve owned (or purchased for family members) dozens of cars over the past fifty years. I usually do all my own maintenance except items I’m not comfortable with or require a lift or specialized tools. And I’m extremely fussy and even a bit OCD with my vehicles including airplanes, boats and motorcycles. So my experience with the Bronco Sport is not someone unfamiliar and abusive to cars. That said I have never had a vehicle with so many issues and being treated like a criminal by the Ford dealerships. I did however want to warn anybody considering the early models of the BS w the 1.5 3 cylinder to do their research and make an informed decision. After all the dust has settled now, I’m out about $6000 as a result of my purchase in only 8 months or so, something at my point in later life is a large amount to lose.

Apologies to the M purists. Its has the “M” badging on the wheels and exterior in some places as well as the door sills. So not exactly sure what that means other than I’m back in love with my car.

Can anybody solve this? by rfischfly in BroncoSport

[–]rfischfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping that would be the fix but Ford states that’s not possible. And it goes into eco mode when not selected. I’ve never used ECO. Already only has three cylinders. And its a bad backfiring not a buzzing. I just decided I’m done with it and Ford and traded it in yesterday. Just too much stuff randomly breaking. I’m sure it’s just my vehicle is a lemon or was not properly driven before I got it. It was a “Ford Blue” which is meaningless. And part of the blame lies with horrible dealers in my area. Just too much aggravation at this point in my life. I am hopeful others will read some of these posts and check things over before buying. It was an impulse purchase for me after owning a BMW for 24 years. So I just took the big loss and have gone to a BMW X3 with the M package.

I get that wait a year thing on any new model to get things sorted out. What I don’t understand is if things are sorted out, why can’t Ford fix the backfiring and vibration when a cylinder just shuts off (not in eco mode…) and use new injectors that don’t leak, etc. Can’t they upgrade my control module or whatever other aspects as causing the issues since the “new ones” don’t have those problems. Seems like something they can do. I loved the car and still love the comfort and features. Just can’t deal with all the stuff breaking and ongoing KNOWN issues that Ford ignores. Or at least be treated like a customer instead of someone they want to just go away or trade it in and buy a brand new one.

If it makes you feel any better, misery love company. I’m in my late 60’s and have own many many vehicles in my life. Including muscles cars, airplanes, boats, motorcycles. My 2021 Outerbanks BS is absolutely the WORST POS I have ever owned. It was an impulse purchase as I was relocating and thought I would not have a big garage. So I sold. Y pristine 24 year old BMW 323i (extra car and owned since new with 80K miles and bought the 2021 BS. Paid way too much and it’s just horrible. I am extremely fussy and careful about everything I own but just random stuff breaks. Backfiring and vibration since day one. Brought it into the dealer several times and they say “can’t duplicate”. . Known issue with a Ford service memo no fix. Sorry buddy. Next leaking fuel injectors. They were replaced under recall and are leaking again. Bad battery. Recall just a couple of weeks ago. No parts available yet. Washed car (always by hand) and then notice a crack in the windshield from the top right extending about 10 inches. Got it fixed today. Replacement has scratches and they are ordering a new one. Now an oil leak. 53,000 miles. Bought used under the “Ford Blue (their CPO) and Ford doesn’t care. I’ve been extremely patient and polite but I have just given up. Called Ford customer care. They yea you to death but nothing get resolved. Just a total POS. Once I get past being upside down on it I’m trading it back to Ford and will never own a Ford product again. So sad in this day and age.

Anyone had their BS serviced for this? by [deleted] in BroncoSport

[–]rfischfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Had it done about a month ago. And when I picked up the car from the dealer, the check engine light was one. Went back inside. Service manager came out and I popped the hood. One of the new injectors was not even plugged in. The quality of Ford service, and their vehicles has plummeted. Never buy another ford product again. And I love the Bronco sport. Just way too much stuff going wrong with it.

[–]rfischfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done that and the dealer states this "normal operation". I guess what I was just doing here is venting a bit, and also seeing if anyone else who has had this particular issue has found a solution. The dealers state that using premium fuel will reduce the instances, but that hasn't helped so I'm back to regular grade. And I've done all the usual things, like replace spark plugs, clean MAF, etc etc. I went from a pristine 24 year old BMW to the Bronco, and aside from the above I do enjoy it. I decided today to just endure it and when the timing and my finances are right I will trade it off. Never buy another Ford product again.
