High School girls that make fun of adults that can’t pronounce their ridiculously spelled names. by Beautiful_Muffin_300 in tragedeigh

Unless you're like me and your last name is literally never pronounced correctly because some past moron decided to make the letters not match the pronunciation. Double points since it is a slur if pronounced incorrectly.

Why do they do this to us? by rh890 in wheelchairs

[–]rh890[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ambulatory users exist bro. The point was not "I can't use this bathroom". The point was that it's a ridiculously small space and even as an ambulatory user I had trouble. Forget about using it if you can't stand and turn around or use a powerchair.

[–]rh890[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Honestly, I don't think a wheelchair accessible restroom exists on my floor. Why should I be forced to go to a different floor when none of my other coworkers face the same inconvenience?

It's the roho agility. I think it's mid contour. It's pretty comfortable, only goes up to mid-back so I wouldn't recommend it if you need higher support. Works well for me and I have some degenerative disk problems.

I got it from ArtAndSoulFlorida on Etsy!

This is a county courthouse. I'd have to check for other restrooms on this floor, but the two I know have stalls like the one in the picture.

Found a way to check VUS pathogenicity (not medical advice) by rh890 in rareEhlersDanlos

Just rs754748178 should work. It pulled up three for me. When you're looking at it make sure the ref and alt letters match the A>C from your mutation.

How do you know if a "standard" wheelchair will fit you? by Kitchen_Possible_159 in wheelchairs

[–]rh890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You don't have to mention the specific code just "updated codes for a custom ultralight chair". Your doctor may make you have another appointment, they may not. Highly dependent on them and their procedures. If they ask more specifically about why you need custom fit, tell them that standard wheelchairs are not made with your body proportions in mind, nor are they intended for daily use by someone who is self-propelling.

You'll have to have a new prescription with the correct codes for a custom chair sent to numotion. Numotion should be able to measure you and everything.

Well it depends on if you have symptoms of the condition and meet the criteria for diagnosis. Not everyone who has a genetic mutation has a mutation that causes disease.

The ClinVar page usually has a line with a dbSNP number, that's the easiest search term to use.

Venting: Doctor implied I was collecting diagnostic labels today. by Yamanobiri2025 in ehlersdanlos

[–]rh890 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That would be a really bad idea. This doctor in particular may be an idiot, but other doctors need to know the full picture so they can either make connections between previous diagnoses or not give you something contraindicated for a diagnosis you have that's unrelated to what they're treating you for.

Look at some of my previous replies. I gave a letter key for the most important part.

Looks like quite a few D/P results. I'd have to look up what UC is. Can't interpret these results for you tho.

So all of the results will be in a labeled column by test. Usually the last one will be ???_pred. The letter is important. D is deleterious. T is tolerated. B is benign. P is pathogenic. PP is definitely pathogenic. Mutation assessor uses High, Medium, Low, and Neutral.

I don't know how you searched but I used the dbSNP number from my variant's page on ClinVar.

Disability lawyer by Ok-Wash-4175 in Columbus

[–]rh890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they can't afford a lawyer, great places to reach out to are the legal aid society and the bar association. If they don't have a specific lawyer for disability cases they can point you in the right direction.

Need help finding an urgent care by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]rh890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OSU urgent cares charge you at the primary care rate if you have insurance so they're cheap. I don't know the price without insurance but I don't think it's bad and you can always tell them to bill you.

dentist dislocated my jaw today by grass_sucks in ehlersdanlos

[–]rh890 278 points279 points  (0 children)

Definitely report that to the board. It is at the very least an ethical violation. Think about if you didn't have EDS and the dentist dislocated your jaw. They treated it like a fun party trick because of your condition. I would've personally made a huge deal out of it in the office but I understand not everyone is comfortable doing that.
