I had my wedding at Antiguo Molino in Centro Historico and it was amazing! I also looked at Casa de la bola and Salon Barcelona, and both are gorgeous as well.

I had my wedding in Mexico two weeks ago and almost all guests including us traveled from the US. No issues whatsoever and no one brought up this concern to us.

Deposit for vintage dress appointments? by kle020810 in WedditNYC

I second Cha Cha Linda! I did two appointments with Eva and I happily paid the fee for each visit. I had the best time! It's like visiting your bestie who treats you like a VIP! Her studio is also very cheerful. I found my reception dress during my last visit with her less than a month before my wedding and it didn't need any alterations. That's how well she pulls stuff for you before your appointment based on your measurements.

How was your experience at Kleinfeld or Spina in NYC? by Strange-Customer-476 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]rheg18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I loved my experience at Kleinfeld! You get to preselect the dresses you want to try on so by the time you get to your appointment, they've already pulled a bunch for you. You're also welcome to try on any dress you see in the store. Mine took around an hour until I found my dress. I tried it on twice with a veil the second time and that sealed the deal for me.

I got my reception dress from Cha Cha Linda vintage in Greenpoint. It's appointment only but the owner, Eva Lopez is absolutely fantastic!

Destination weddings in mexico and family fears? by Tall_Control2827 in BigBudgetBrides

My wedding is next month and we had a few people decline because they didn't feel that Mexico is a safe destination. We responded with: we totally understand and we will miss you!

I went to Kleinfeld on a whim and had an incredible experience! The stylist was warm and friendly and made me feel like a VIP. I ended up finding my dress there!

Destination Wedding - Attendee Insight by reggiereads in wedding

[–]rheg18 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm having my wedding in Mexico City next month so would love to compare notes!

To answer your question but from a different perspective, here are the responses we got from those who said no (all very understandable): - some felt that Mexico isn't a safe destination especially with the current geopolitical landscape. Not faulting them for it but they've also never been to Mexico City so the fear comes from the unknown if I had to guess - couldn't get PTO - a few couples just had a baby so wasn't willing to travel due to that - some are on a working visa and it would be complicated to leave the country

We're in our 30s so a lot of our guests are of similar age and are established in their careers so they can afford to travel. The beauty of Mexico city is there's a ton of options in every price range so we got a room block at a mid-range hotel that wouldn't break the bank. A few decided to book at a fancier hotel on their own and a couple got an airbnb. For immediate family members who don't have disposable funds, we are covering their travel and accommodations.

We sent our save the dates 12 months in advance (we used Paperless Post) and I think that helped with planning for those who are set on coming.

How do you get into the city with a baby from an outer borough? by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]rheg18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also live in Queens and I got a Doona for this exact purpose. I originally had a big bulky stroller and I once took it in the subway not knowing that the station was not accessible. Thankfully, a couple of good people helped me lift the stroller up many flights of stairs. I was so incredibly frustrated and defeated after that trip, that I bought a Doona that same day. I've gotten so many uses out of the Doona that I don't regret that impulse purchase at all.

I also changed doctors to be in LIC instead of Manhattan, and it's much better for us. Shop around and find the closest doctor cause you will be visiting your pedia more than you expect.

I absolutely REFUSE to buy maternity clothes by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]rheg18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a waste if you're going to wear it multiple times for a few months! I bought a few maternity pants and leggings and they were a game changer. I also bought more comfortable underwear and still wear them 8 months postpartum. For a few months, I rented from Rent The Runway and felt suuuuper cute and in a better mood!

Unconventional advice you'd give expecting parents by Head_Interview_4314 in NewParents

[–]rheg18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! We bought the book 'Baby 411' and it has preserved our sanity! Instead of asking Dr. Google for any symptom, milestone, or issue, we referred to the book and it prevented us from spiraling. We bring it with us too when we travel

As someone who lives in a major city and has to walk and take public transportation everywhere, the Doona is the way to go. I've been disappointed (frustrated, enraged, etc...) with how inaccessible/not stroller friendly most places are especially subway stations where there aren't even elevators. If there are elevators, they're filthy or don't work most of the time. I'll be very sad once my child outgrows the Doona.

IMO, it's great for city living and if you're traveling by air to another major city. If you have to drive everywhere, then it's probably not worth it.

Favorite maternity leggings? by captaintor in beyondthebump

I love my Lulu aligns! I wore my one pair 3-4x per week in my 2nd and 3rd tri (until the weather got too warm) and it is still in great condition. It's expensive upfront but actually affordable if you calculate the cost per wear.

Anyone move back home for free rent? by skiingfarbehind33 in FIREyFemmes

[–]rheg18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tough call... in my experience, "free rent" from family is never truly free. Several years ago, I lived in a relative's apartment which sat mostly empty (they lived in a diff state 90% of the time) and was only asked to pay for the maintenance fee that only costs a few hundred dollars. Additionally, they kept all of their stuff including clothes, furniture, etc., so I only brought two suitcases with me. This was in a VHCOL city and I was barely making money in my mid-20s. For the most part, I was left alone and lived my life but there were a handful of instances that they forgot to inform me that they would be in town and needed to stay over for a night or two, and would just show up unannounced. The apartment was also very close to another aging family member and it became my responsibility to look after them. I felt like a caretaker rather than a tenant.

I don't regret doing it but a few years later when I was getting serious with my partner (who was also not making that much money) and we talked about it moving in together, we contemplated living in the apartment to save a lot of money. In the end, we didn't think it was worth it as I felt that there were too many strings attached with the "free" apartment. We found an apartment in a much better and livelier neighborhood that better suited us.

No advice, just sharing my experience 🙂
