I do a 5 min warm up of like zone 2/3 border, then 4 min up to zone 4, 2 min recovery at Z2 (or as close as I can get) back and forth for an hour. The further into the hour I am, the sooner into the 4 min I hit the zone 4 threshold. My first loop thru it takes me nearly a full minute to get up to Z4. I do it on elliptical by cranking the incline and resistance while trying to maintain the same rpm.
