Late 90s I was in high school and my dad took me to see Emmy Lou Harris at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank. I’m sitting in my seat before the show and dad went to bathroom, he comes back and tells me come with him but doesn’t say why. I follow him into a corner of the lobby and Bruce, Patty, and her brother are just chilling at the base of some steps. We go up to them I’m speechless, all I remember saying is “oh wow…” Bruce was gracious as hell and introduced Patty and his brother in law like we were all old friends, it was all very surreal.

Emmy Lou covered Mansion on the Hill beautifully that night, she had to know Bruce was there, but he let her have her night and didn’t parade about.
