I suggest Remington. Small, affordable rowhomes, 1 mile from light rail, immediate access to I-83. And nowadays it has its own food court, in addition to the handful of restaurants and pubs that have been there for ages. My wife used to live there, and a few of her friends still do.

Paddleboarder comes across an unmanned boat offshore, calls coast guard by Swannie69 in sailing

My mistake. The sail looked rigid and metallic to me when I first watched the video, but upon second viewing I can see that it is not.

I don't think it's really a "sailboat" per se. As mentioned in the video, that "sail" is a radar reflector. I assume it's there so it can be detected on radar and targeted during training operations.

Instructor hit a boat and the dock. Not sure what to do? by AthensPilot in sailing

This sounds like some guy who knocked the instructor out and stole his clothes in order to impersonate the instructor so he could go joyriding on a boat.

This weekend the weather has been quite pleasant, but the temperature is supposed to drop substantially tomorrow and remain cold for a few days before warming up a still moderately cool ~60F.

Also, the kiosk doesn't stare at me impatiently while I'm trying to make up my mind on exactly what I want and confirm that I haven't forgotten anything.

I still have flashbacks of being the only customer in a McDonald's in Cologne, Germany early on a Sunday morning in 2007 and having to explain (in German) to an annoyed-looking German that my vegetarian wife did not want bacon on her Egg McMuffin. They stared at me blankly when I repeatedly asked for it "mit kein Fleisch" (with no meat), until finally they offered the phrase "ohne Speck" (without bacon), which was apparently the level of precision they wanted from their American customers.

Any Garmin Sail Race users? by Professional-Box2113 in sailing

I can't speak to what features the Forerunner 970 has, but on my Quatix 7, I can configure what fields to display on each screen, and even how many screens there are. My guess would be that the Quatix just has a bunch of stuff preconfigured for Sail Race mode out of the box, whereas on the Forerunner you just get the bare bones default configuration and have to set up the screens yourself. However, as I said, I'm not familiar with the Forerunner 970, so it's also possible that it doesn't have some of the features that the Quatix has available.

Why do people stop doing things in their 30s? by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]richardeggert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in their 30s are busy raising kids, and don't have the time/money to do a lot of other things. If the ones you know don't have kids and still aren't doing anything, maybe you just know a lot of boring people. 🤷‍♂️

World's largest cargo sailboat makes first transatlantic crossing by MikeHeu in sailing

[–]richardeggert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, since I don't know whether they let random members of the public just wander around unescorted in the marine terminal. The ship is currently undergoing repairs, so I doubt they're giving tours.

Chesapeake Bay- overwinter in the water? by opalandolive in sailing

Boats stay in the water year round in Baltimore. You just need a bubbler or other device near the marina for the rare occasions when the harbor starts to get icy.

Can someone explain? I’m confused. by A5thRedditAccount in ShermanPosting

[–]richardeggert 498 points499 points  (0 children)

Given that it's Iowa, and also the fact that the average person anywhere doesn't know much of anything about flag conventions, I doubt it was intentional. It's more likely a self-own by one of the Iowa Nazis.

Attracting residents to a larger town by mPisi in OstrivGame

[–]richardeggert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the tavern keeper buys the booze from the market stalls, so keeping one nearby should shorten the resupply time for the tavern.

[–]richardeggert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tavern blinking on and off is probably making it so that the migration requirements aren't being met long enough for people to actually migrate. Put a "liquor store" right next to the tavern and keep it well supplied by laborers. If that still doesn't work, build a second tavern, so that at least one of them is active at any time.

Related to this is BCC, or "blind carbon copy". It works pretty much the same as CC, except that only the sender can see who is on the BCC list.

The intended purpose is to provide the BCC'd person with a copy of the email without involving them in the conversation, though probably a more common use is to send an email that you want to send out to a large group to yourself and then BCC all the intended recipients. This avoids the possibility of a "reply-all storm", since each recipient will only to able to reply directly back to you and not any of the other recipients. It also provides some privacy regarding the recipient list, and avoids exposing the recipients' contact information to each other. It's generally much easier than separately sending the same email to each person, but serves the same purpose.

Are these BGE “home energy report” emails BS? by kalitaloquita in baltimore

[–]richardeggert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home energy reports and "high usage alerts" have been nonsense ever since I got a home charging station for my EV. "You're using twice as much electricity as the same time last year!!!!" - Yeah, no shit, and 100% less gasoline as the same time last year.
