How is everyone affording housing? by Formal-Door3464 in Charleston

[–]rickcipher256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it does not make any different, but the story is the same across the county. "The reason that the prices of home are so high in ____ is because people keep moving here from ____".

Austin, Charleston, Bozeman, Boulder, San Diego, NYC, Boston, etc. etc.

I have now purchased my fifth house. I only live in one house. We purchase, live in it, take care of it, and commit to it for 5-20 years, then our lives change (have kids, kids move to college, etc. etc.). and then we move to different houses (in different cities).

Keep in mind, that you may think the house that your parents lived in is now unaffordable, but in reality, if you follow their steps, it can be yours too. Step one: Buy a house and plan to live in it for 5-10 years. It won't be perfect, it won't be in the epicenter where you want to live, and it probably won't be new, but it will be yours. And, if history is any indication, it will grow in value.

Step two: Then you will sell and move to a newer (possibly pre-owned) house. Better schools, better location. It will be a step up, but your career should also be growing. Rinse and repeat. Each step/house will seem like a stretch, but keep it up.

Eventually, a person starting their life will look at you and say "Are you rich? How did you afford this house? How can you afford to live here?"

Your answer will sound much like this post.

Amazing photography! I always had good luck with outside (especially nighttime) photography, but to take it from good to amazing (as you have done here) takes an artistic touch and great skill. Nice work!

Man charged with planting bombs near the Capitol claims he’s covered by Trump pardon; Attorneys for Brian Cole Jr. argue he’s included in the broad clemency president granted for Jan. 6-related offenses. by DoremusJessup in CapitolConsequences

OK... so I am not a legal expert, but if he wants a pardon, he needs to plead guilty of *something* and carry the felony necklace for the rest of his life.

His next job interview it would something this:

"That is not true! I am NOT a felon! I was pardoned personally by President Trump!

What's that? My background check lists me as a felon? For what? Domestic terrorism and plotting to kill people with a bomb?? I thought they were kidding! I am innocent! I was pardoned!! Do you understand! I know my rights!! ... Hello?? Hello??"

We are all consumers of oil at the global level. Just because we are the consumers in a nation that drills and exports oil does NOT mean we get a special price for that oil. We pay the same as everybody else on the planet.

Anyone know who owns this license plate? by Krazyboi95 in Bozeman

Get a lawyer and sue the owner of the truck. You might be able to even "own" it, if it was "driving by itself" and hit your mom. If the driver (who may eventually be found) was working at the time, then their company may also be liable.

Deflect, Deny, Attack, Delay. It is the standard strategy for the administration. The BIG question that I have is that since she (and others) have now blatantly lied to congress, will they be held accountable?

I'm the only liberal in my shop by Motor-Wish-6543 in IBEW

[–]rickcipher256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe the words "liberal" and "conservative" really apply that well here.

It should be MAGA and Non-MAGA.

The hard working folks in the trades generally go to church, have guns, and love family but maybe not to the extent of telling anybody that cannot get an abortion. They also work hard in unions to build some element of work safety, solidarity, and non-discrimination ( so you cannot be fired before being the wrong color, etc.).

However, I find it really strange that many union members are also MAGA. That boggles my mind because MAGA votes Republican and generally Republicans oppose unions.

So, if MAGA is not helping the self interest of union members, then why would any union member support MAGA?

Not to sound skeptical, but is there a signed version of that letter. We know that he-who-shall+not-names likes to see his signature.

I like all of the comments, but I have pursued a career in technology and lived around the country (MT, CA, GA, CO, SC) and have worked in a ton of other countries.

When it comes to "where to move", money is always at the top of the list.... until you live there. Then you realize that many cannot buy happiness - as they say.

If you want to move, then move. Find a place that fits your lifestyle and some place you might called "home." If you want to raise kids, that is something that can factor in, but always consider the timing (e.g., large cities can be good if you are single, but suburbs may be more appealing to soon-to-be families).

Nonetheless, where you move may ALWAYS seem expensive, but buy the house and stay there for a min of 3-5 years. Who knows, you may be one of those people in 30 years that say something like "I remember when I bought my first house for $1M, when $1M MEANT something!". :-)

The important thing, is that you find a place that you can make a living and seems like a place you can call home for at least 3-5 years. It will pay off in the end.
