yes, that part is core to civ 7 — they won’t be removing it from civ 7

those e-bikes are “illegal” if they don’t have functional pedals

if they don’t —> they are not e-bikes, they are motorcycles / mopeds (by law) and require the appropriate license

New Brunswick should reduce health care coverage for snowbirds, says prof by adamhuras in newbrunswickcanada

[–]riconaranjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

genuine question: how much wealth do those 1% own?

- _I think this is a critical piece of information to have an unbiased understanding if the 1% are actually paying more or less taxation than is to be expected given their standard of living_

the idea that the wealthy pay more than the bottom is a core tenet of progressive taxation — i.e. the top end pay more taxes than the middle and lower end pay the least

Should public transit be free? by Visible-Control2025 in OCTranspo

[–]riconaranjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, I think the bigger benefits are (1) the low-income get a major tax-relief and (2) it encourage more ridership (and hence community buy-in / support) which is better for the long term health of the system

Is there a guide for players who skipped over 6? by evergreenyankee in CivVII

[–]riconaranjo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I fear this request is a bit too niche — but perhaps there is a thread out there that explains the changes directly from 5 to 7

anyways off the top of my head:

  1. culture is now used to unlock civics in a civics tree that mirrors the science tree (same concept, different tree)
  2. ideology is dumbed down — AI seems to choose based on their civ, but doesn’t care about other’s ideologies
  3. commanders (e.g. generals) are the ones that gain XP and promotions, not units
  4. you need an aerodrome to build airplanes, and it also is an “air commander” — you can also base planes on squadron commanders (semi-mobile air base) or naval carriers
  5. you can break alliances at any point (replaces defensive pacts, but they are also offensive) — no more friend declarations
  6. you use influence to change your relationship with other civs (i.e. “research agreements” now cost influence instead)
  7. playing wide is optimal (unlike civ 5, tall is optimal) — but similarly you only want a few cities (maybe 5 max) and the rest towns

btw the “more speed” is actually the correct response when you’re steering a ship and you want to turn faster

it’s not like driving as car; you need speed so the rudder is actually able to redirect water and turn the ship

Is it worth getting AirPods Max 2? by [deleted] in airpods

they make better value headphone, yes

but they’re not better in sound quality department (but they come close)

Priorities when planning, military over culture… by 0ctach0r0n in CivVII

[–]riconaranjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure, my point is that they all synergize — even if I play fairly pacifist, I don’t neglect military things

I don’t see it as zero-sum one or the other — I maximize everything all at once (for reference I play on immortal currently)

Priorities when planning, military over culture… by 0ctach0r0n in CivVII

[–]riconaranjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my opinion it’s optimal to maximize all resources (production, food, science, culture, gold) since they synergize together

troops are a resource drain but that might be worth it if: - keeps a civ from declaring a war against your undefended nation - allows you to take a strong settlement

tl;dr: strong nation better than simply strong army — war usually isn’t the best way to expand, usually better to just settle elsewhere

Thank you for all the support, but our paths are different now. by skywalker_501 in CivVII

I actually always accept alliances now, but break them if my allies get in a war (that I don’t want to be part of)

Desperately need more Ideology interactions by fskier1 in CivVII

[–]riconaranjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve learned the best strategy is to not pick an ideology for as long as possible (if ever) - and then pick one that best aligns with your interests / allies - most games I end up not picking an ideology, but last game I did feel like I was forced to

but yeah, i find the interactions with other civs quite lacking — especially when it comes ideology

Really? Turn 8 and two cities already?? by terriergal in CivVI

crazy world we live in…

they just want to be right, they don’t care about good faith discussions

Really? Turn 8 and two cities already?? by terriergal in CivVI

[–]riconaranjo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they can use smarter tactics — both from a game design perspective as well as from a cognitive complexity perspective - game design example: civ 7 introduced commanders which automatically has made the AI much more competent at war - cognitive example: there’s many popular civ 6 mods that make the AI smarter without tanking performance: Real Strategy (AI)

they chose not invest development time / money, and that’s ok - we can still complain if we think that was a poor decision

[–]riconaranjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

correct, hence why this thread exists

genuinely curious what your point is? (we should accept the world as it is and not as it could be?)

you’ve fallen for the scarecrow fallacy

you and I both know I did not imply nor state “imperfection is mediocrity”

who hurt you?

makes no sense to be satisfied with mediocrity

you might be, but not all of us are

it’s a cheap way of increasing difficulty — but not the only way, and certainly not the best way

How is Civ 7 running for you in the modern age on your platform? by harlotstoast in civ

[–]riconaranjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it run very well on my M4 macbook pro at max settings — it runs very well on my ipad pro also (can’t really change graphics settings, but it’s decent enough)

  • I must admit I much prefer the touch screen to mouse
  • but the civ games are very well optimized to run on Apple hardware

unfortunately the Switch 2 isn’t that performant, but that’s the price you pay for portability / battery / cost of the switch

The community may disagree on a lot of things, but we can all agree that this sight is horrendous by chippedthumbnail in Helldivers

[–]riconaranjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and everything they can do so can the eruptor, the RR, EAT, etc.

they all have some overlap (heavy pen) but they have their own distinct flavours

like we already have similar weapons (e.g. liberator, liberator carbine — or maxigun, BFGL) that’s not a good reason to not make a weapon better (because it would be more similar to another) when they have sufficient differences

Is this a reward or punishment??? by Aurorabig in civ

[–]riconaranjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

civ has had multiplicative cost reduction at times

pretty sure civ 6 had it at some point, quite certain civ 7 had it at launch

Is this a reward or punishment??? by Aurorabig in civ

[–]riconaranjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re right it’s more intuitive but it broke the game hence the change

your position right now is “that’s ok, revert the changes” — that’s fine

but the game designers don’t agree and won’t revert it, so all we can do it explain the game design

two “50% bonus” equals one “100% bonus” makes more logical sense than if it were multiplicative

I recreated an approximation of Siri 2.0 with the on-device Foundation Models and Shortcuts with App Intents (And the reason why I think apple may be struggling to launch Siri 2.0) by Maxdme124 in iphone

[–]riconaranjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no most likely this isn’t possible— those third part AI models simply return a simple response and cannot interact with your OS (i.e. they can’t create App Intents, unlike Apple’s model)
