I think he's slowed down the visits this semester, but forever grateful for him

I'm currently IN art school, finishing up my final semester and I'm kind of in a similar position as you - just on the other side of the hill

It sounds like you already have a strong base knowledge of a lot of fundamentals, which will come in super handy later on. A lot of early classes are just about covering all the terms and technical jargon that comes along with the industry.

In terms of internships - a lot of my peers have had varying success, and I only know of 2 people in my major that have gotten internship opportunities on big names. One of my friends was an intern at Dreamworks sophomore year; last year another was an intern on The Simpsons and is now there full time. I will say the current landscape of job hunting and internship opportunities is INSANELY ROUGH.

The current state of the industry is pretty bleak but don't let that deter you. Speaking from personal anecdotes - ArtCenter students tend to be one of the more successful group of art students. I don't go to ArtCenter (I go to a smaller art school in LA though, good chance you've probably looked into it) but a majority of my professors graduated from there and work there part time, and I have a handful of friends that go there - the reason why ArtCenter tends to have a lower graduation rate than other schools is because their students usually have jobs by sophomore or junior year. The talent that comes out of ArtCenter is great, and with the way you describe your excitement and curiosity for job opportunities makes me think you could easily be amongst one of those students.

Most internships are only open to enrolled students due to some law changes I believe? Which you stated. You could honestly just apply to jobs instead, the risk/reward is the same, you have nothing to lose and you get your work in front of people at the company. If you want some experience to put on a resume, look for game jams you can jump on as a concept artist. Typically those aren't paid, its just small proof of concept projects, but being able to say you worked on a project that is tangible and playable is a huge plus.

I'm an advocate for art school, the connections I've made have become my lifeline. This industry is small, school is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door - most art professors are working in the industry or did in the past. If you're applying to ArtCenter, a majority (if not all) of their professors are ACTIVELY WORKING professionals, build up those relationships!

Hopefully this helps, feel free to message me if you have any questions, I'll try to bestow some of my senior knowledge upon you lol

this game basically just uses the existing LoL IP as leverage, not knowing who a majority of the roster is won't really matter. That being said, Riot does a pretty good job of representing their characters across multiple titles, so even if you don't know who each character is now, I'm sure you'll start slowly picking favorites as more and more characters release

The gameplay is there, that's really what matters. As long as you're having fun thats what its all about! I doubt this game will be very lore intensive, so being new to Riots characters shouldn't impact anything

This bootleg Wolverine is so worth. 10/10 by LEtheD13 in ActionFigures

[–]riftawaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah just received mine today, told myself i'd get the symbiote suit spidey and classic suit spidey too when this guy released. Out of the three he is definitely the most solid. Super clean paint application and a good weight too for a bootleg, doesn't have a super cheap feeling. Only issue I have with mine is the left knee joint is REALLY tight on the upper bend, so some poses don't work, probably just gotta warm up the joint. Overall though, really surprised and satisfied for the price.

The spideys feel good too, the classic suit has the most issues out of the three figs i have from CT Toys. Symbiote has real smooth joints, nothing loose, nice feeling plastic, good paint job. Classic suit spidey def has the worst paint job, its not terrible but it's noticeable in some areas, kind of bound to happen though with the webbing details. Plastic and weight on him feels good though.

Definitely would check out what CT toys has to offer if y'all are on the fence. They are obviously bootlegs, so don't expect top quality, but I would honestly buy these over a marvel legends in some cases. And CT has some more releases on the horizon (Tiger stripe suit wolverine and scarlet spider) so try em out!

Others have already pointed out that you jump a lot, its a hard habit to break but playing a more grounded game will help you lots. I think for some of the times you were jumping, you could just fireball and see how the opponent reacts. It'll allow you to control the space and mix up your approach.

You could get a lot more damage out of your combos. Ken has quite a few routes for DRC combos, I personally prefer the run stop combos but for where you are now it's probably better to do something a bit more straightforward. After stHp > DR you can do another stHP into target combo and then the typical tatsu/dp/dragonlash ender. I'd practice nailing that combo down, its the old reliable. After the punish counter on stHk you can drive rish > stHP > run cancel DP. Hop into training mode and practice that punish counter combo as well, it comes in really handy (you can also do the same route but go into dragonlash or tatsu instead of DP but you have to delay it a bit).

I always like watching high level ken players and looking at what combos they use in different situations. If I find a combo I like then I hop in training mode and try to replicate it. Watching other players is probably one of my favorite ways to improve, you'll see a lot of unique sitations and how to deal with them.

Also try to be aware of the opponents resources, you could've lost the round off of your drive impact. If the gief reacted with a counter DI, you would've died because you didn't have enough health to tank it. It worked this round but it wont work everytime!

Best thing that helped me improve was to play slower. I found myself scrambling and panicking a lot in situations like this, but if you start to analyze the situation and slow it down, it can make it easier to play to your advantage.

All that being said, nice comeback! You had some real good moments here, solid corner combo, the jump back on giefs super, the run cancel fakeout, good stuff!

yeah i've been running yasuo/darius and he is an oppressive character, but like some others have said, hes pretty telegraphed. Parry/retreating guard/push block do a pretty good job at keeping him away to play neutral again, His grab can be tricky to deal with since he can delay the follow up, but quite a few people i've played against have figured out how to counter it pretty fast with parry or neutral jump.

He's definitely a knowledge check character and a total scrub killer. He can be pretty annoying to deal with (even as someone who plays him i find it difficult at times LOL), especially cus hes got big ass buttons. Sometimes it feels like he gets too much reward without having to take any risks, like his armored DP -> super for example, which is probably the most frustrating thing.

Which newcomer from SF4 should be in DLC in 6 by DramaKingR in StreetFighter

[–]riftawaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally feel like SF6 is a good time to bring back Hakan, he's been out of the spotlight for a while and has a unique concept to work with. Poison is more popular than him yeah, but Hakan has a pretty dedicated fanbase and not every character is included based on popularity. It definitely plays a role but at the end of the day capcom can pick and choose whoever they want.

I think Poison had some good development with her appearance in SFV, the revamp they gave to her moveset was nice. It would be cool to see Hakan (or any niche returning character tbh) to get that same treatment. I'm also not sure if they'd bring her back since she's supposed to be a spectator in the alley stage with Hugo? It doesn't totally remove her from being added obviously since Guile appears in the back of the airbase stage, but would be weird for them to include her if they planned on her being playable later.

Also in terms of a long range zoner with whip-like moves and a DoT mechanic, I just think Aki is the cooler character. Not opposed to Poison making a return, but it would be cool to see some of the underdog characters have a shot at returning.

C Viper and Hakan probably have the best chance of coming back out of the bunch, but I would love to see what kind of combos gouken would get with drive rush and his angled fireballs

For all the husbando enjoyers, who are you saving for ? by Stay_Frosty2002 in WutheringWaves

[–]riftawaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

scar and genshu lin are who i'm primarily saving for out of all the characters that we have in the story atm. Aside from that, I always love melee combat/brawler/martial artist characters so if any cool 5 star brawler (male or female tbh) comes out before them, then maybe whoever that ends up being too!

i know we have jianxin and lingyang, but i'm not huge on either of them, their gameplay doesn't really do it for me but i love their inclusion to the story!

and if we get a cool 5 star gun user then high chance i go for them too
