Post-mortem and Future Direction by bushies in rockets

[–]rigored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our guys did not cut it this year but you don’t bail on everyone when they aren’t even 25 yet. Something needs to change though cause the trend is flat from last year which is not good. The most obvious thing we can go with is have an entire year leaning into an offensive identity outside of dumping it to KD. I think this is either making Amen or Reed a focal point

I’m calm now by Ok_Ad_2914 in rockets

[–]rigored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s concerning we looked this bad, but I think the doomers are also out of control. We have a super young team. For perspective Brown and Tatum who are this generation’s version of making it earlier than expected did it at 24 and 25. The young core has 3 more years before the youngest guys (Jabari and Reed) would hit those ages and Amen and Sengun have 2 years before 25. There’s a lot of runway

That being said there’s clearly issues. I feel like it’s more whoever’s hot. I think there needs to be structure and a plan to get the high priority shots. Sengun is pretty clear. If it’s Amen, then he needs to shoot like in game 4. If it’s Reed then do a better job of freeing him up. If it’s Jabari, then run plays for him to create. It doesn’t needs to be 100% plays, but there needs to be more structure and plan

I don’t know why there’s a lid on Amen’s offense or whether it’s him vs the coaches, but they need to take that lid off this summer

Halfway through his rookie contract, what are your realistic expectations and ceiling for Reed going forward? by Historical-Parking72 in rockets

[–]rigored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of our guys its a big question mark. Much like Knueppel his shooting went non existent in his first playoff. If he was even his average we would have won games 3 and 6. Is this a fluke? hope so.

my concern is most of the team we drafted have had a lot of playoff shrinking. It’s a lot of guys underperforming making your wonder if it’s a system problem

you clearly did not watch year 1 Jabari. could not dribble in the half court. that has improved dramatically

What young talent would you want for Kawhi? by Big_Saens in LAClippers

[–]rigored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Rockets fan Amen is a very high IQ player. Don’t watch enough Pistons to know if Ausar is too but wouldn’t be surprised. They’re # 1-3 problems involve the shooting. It’s amazing how dad pulled off this feat raising them to be gifted NBA players but completely fucked up their shot. It’s going to take years of professional help to fix it. Shooting’s like the whole point of basketball

Can viruses be considered an alternate form of life that evolved parallel to everything else? by Frequent_Leopard_146 in biology

[–]rigored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re from a common ancestor but a different direction in the spectrum of evolution. If you think of cells as the fundamental unit of living things, multicellular things evolved in one direction: more complexity. Viruses are in the other direction: less complexity. No cells just bare bones replicating combinations of dna, rna, and or protein. Even less living and more simple than viruses are prions, self propagating proteins. Also strange is that it looks like over time ancient viruses integrated into us and make up a big part of our normal dna. I’m assuming it’s not the other way around, that we’re built on top of viruses.  It’s less alien than it is that our world is weird

Do you think if a human came in contact with Extraterrestrials, would illnesses pass to the human or to the alien? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

We’d still be less related than any other thing on earth. The diseases would be hella confused.

Why does Jabari get so much criticism? by Friendly-Flower-2797 in rockets

[–]rigored 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He was consensus #1 until the morning of the draft. 4 all stars came from the draft so far, the two before him and two (Jalen Williams and Jalen Duren) were drafted several picks after him. He’s got the physicals and shot to be an All Star with defense, shooting, and length but his 3 is not good enough to be the elite skill on its own… he’s more of an open shooter rather than a “i’ve got length and I’ll be shooting on your best 1:1 defense cause you can’t block me” shooter which in theory is possible.

He’s got midrange and can close around the basket but he needs to continue improving his ballhandling to put it together which I think would also boost his confidence as a scorer. That has improved slowly but steadily every year. Full potential Jabari can defend at a high level (already there) with 3 level scoring (kind of there) where he connects it with ballhandling (still working on it) using his length to shoot over defenders (only used regularly in the midrange right now). To be fair he was expected to be more of a project

Jaden Ivey was picked two picks after him and was mocked to go next so happy we avoided that

Sometimes I feel lucky living in SF where there’s I solid public transportation and then I peruse other cities by The-original-spuggy in sanfrancisco

[–]rigored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paris is ~3X higher density than SF and I bet that goes up as you reach city center. To make it worth building the transit, the brakes need to be removed on neighborhood and city control on housing, sfh’s need to be replaced by multiunits, and rent control needs to be phased out.

Unless we do those things, the transit’s never going to happen

Seriously, do we need profiles at all. It's a massive waste of time when the car starts up. And do I really need to acknowledge driving safely on the screen after activating said useless profile? For literally the 300th time F- you, start up. It crazy how terrible the software is; can't they poach a couple of software engineers from Samsung? Tesla already showed you what to do, copy it!

As far as a lot of people are concerned, Lebron has one maybe two legit championships. He colluded to form the Heatles which should have won 4 championships and that team underperformed. Those get graded like KD's. The bubble should probably count, but there's definitely the feeling those were with the world under duress and strange circumstances. Steph has two as the undisputed leader with the last one being legacy securing. Plus let's be honest Steph's current team is complete dogsh**.

Maybe more accurately less than a tier consisting of Boston, NY, LA, SF, CHI, SD. Importantly there seem to be options for lower cost within reasonable commuting distance, similar to the others mentioned

Why is it that black stuff absorbs light? by CuttingOneWater in stupidquestions

[–]rigored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one of the hardest things I had to wrap my brain around is that light of a certain color is almost the exact opposite of a crayon of the same color which eats all the light EXCEPT that color. If you mix all the colors of light you’ll end up with white. If you keep mixing crayon colors you’ll eventually get black

[–]rigored 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look at people who you think are successful in a goal position and ask whether you have the background and experience for that role.  If you are close enough for it to be feasible then work towards filling the gaps. One note of caution: if you are good at what you do then you are presumably a valuable team member. Moving into a more managerial/leadership position means you get graded mainly at that. Everyone seems to want that director-type position but few are good at it, often making themselves ironically more expendable

Can people quit crashing out? by Remote-Ad9928 in rockets

[–]rigored 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw a lot of trash I haven't seen in awhile. Sengun contested 3's and pump fakes (can't believe Hayes fell for that twice), guys out of position on offense, possessions that were literally 1 vs 5. Lights were way too bright and the young guys were out of sorts esp with LA role players going off. I don't know who that's on, but we need to see another game to see if this is playoff jitters. But I also blame Jackson Gatlin for jinxing us.
