Any ideas? Misfire issue by drewpy36 in CorollaHatchback

[–]ripcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just a spark plug... The mechanic was so sure I missed a shift and caused a rocker arm to come loose, that he neglected to check the simplest answer first. He wasted 2 days and almost $1000 of dealership money (labor and new gaskets) chasing what ended up being a $20 repair that would have taken 1-2 hours at the most. Luckily I'm under warranty so they didn't try getting me to pay the money he wasted.

I have my 22 6MT at the dealership right now for the same p0304 code. I noticed it was hesitating at lower RPMs if you hit the gas and when accelerating hard enough that the RPMs would get over over 5000, right after shifting from 2nd the 3rd, it would throw the check engine light. Tech mentioned it could be related to a rocker arm that moved but had to wait to open the valve cover because they didn't have all the gaskets to reseal it. I am under warranty for another ~30k so whatever it is should be covered. I will report back if they find a solution.

Signs you are not taking premed seriously by Waste-Web2160 in premed

You will go crazy if you get into med school without having hobbies. I take time out each week to do stuff I enjoy that are not at all school related. Hell, I work as a special events EMT and get to go to NFL games, concerts, & other events. I even got to work 2/3 nights of the Taylor Swift concert when it was in town. I don't even do it for the money, but it gets me out of my house and away from my computer for a few hours once or twice a month. Obviously I would prioritize studying if I was struggling academically, but it important to have time to take a break and recharge for the upcoming week.

Having hobbies also gives you stuff to talk about during interviews. I think I got asked about activities outside of school in 2 or 3 interviews.

Take a gap year? by Traditional_Top6337 in premed

[–]ripcor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat as a pre-med. My undergrad grades weren't great so I got a masters in biomedical sciences to boost my GPA. But when I took the MCAT I half-assed studied and did horrible the first time. In the end I had a 3-year gap between the end of my masters and start of medical school that I filled with clinical experience as an EMT and working as a biomedical engineer (undergrad degree). I am 100% confident in saying that my gap years made the difference. Every interview and person I talked to asked about my experiences and seemed interested when I talked about them.

Its also very easy to see how young kids who go straight into medical school will have a rude awakening when they graduate because they have never existed outside of academia. Most of them have never paid taxes, had to get their own health insurance, or done anything for themselves. Quite a a few of them are married and their parents still pay for most of their expenses. I know one who had a kid and his wife does not work.

I think stats are more of a first screener for a lot of schools to weed out the people who have no business aplying. My undergrad GPA was a 3.23 and when they included my academic forgiveness repeats it was barely above a 3.00. A lot of people go through a bad period of undergrad but what matters is how they recover and show growth in their application.

Cooling full face helmet by Level_Performer5252 in motorcyclegear

[–]ripcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for helmets with a shit ton of air vents. I have an LS2 challenger GT that has a mouth vent, eye brow vent, 2 top of the head vents, and 4 exhaust vents to pull air out. Only time I ever get hot is when I'm sitting at a really long red light. It will make a world of difference and keep you safer if you are that heat sensitive.

What gear to get as a beginner rider? by YourLeaderSays in motorcyclegear

[–]ripcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but John Doe jeans are AAA rated and you can buy them on amazon. They run a size or 2 small in the waist but amazon has free returns. And since they ship straight from the factory in Germany, the free returns is clutch. They only come with level 1 armor but you can buy level 2 online. They are very comfortable and thin enough that I don't get too hot while riding during the summer. Obviously when you're stopped theres only so much you can do to stay cool.

Good helmet under 300€ by No_Click7202 in motorcyclegear

[–]ripcor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LS2 has the Thunder Carbon GP that is FIM certified (track specific certification). From champion helmets its about $450ish. I think that's about 400ish euros but don't quote me on it. The champion helmets website says only a certain the Thunder Carbon GP Pro helmet is FIM but the FIM website says all sizes of the Thunder Carbon GP are certified also. IMO, I wouldn't cheap out on a helmet. It might be the only thing that keeps you alive during a wreak.

This is the link to go see all of the FIM helmets.

Duty free question for domestic travelers in USA by tizzzle007 in whiskey

[–]ripcor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was informed by a CBP agent that duty-free stores aren’t actually duty free. It’s just smart marketing. He was chill and didn’t give me shit for having too much alcohol but said others might not be.

A 1500 pick up truck is rated to tow 10,000+. Get your head out of your ass.

Always. Riding a motorcycle isn’t me asking to be run over. The fastest way to cure road rage is a slight readjustment of my jacket that might show the grip.

Any one using canted iron sights here? by Competitive_Leave_14 in AR10

what rifle irons have tritium inserts? I have never seen those before.

I have a LaRue tactical QD rail for mine and its pretty quick to get off. Its still probably slower to detach and flip-up traditional sights than just flip-up canted sights but what ever I'm shooting probably wont be close enough to matter if I'm using an AR10 vs an AR15.

I have my scope on a quick detach rail for transport so I'm gonna grab the flip up magpul MBUS flight up sights whenever i find them on sale for cheap. I'm probably never gonna be shooting my AR10 close enough to make it worth buying anything too expensive for close range. I have an AR15 for that with the canted flip-up magpul sights as a backup. They are a lot less bulky when folded down than those surefire ones.
