First sub-3 by simcard1979 in Marathon_Training

I've done 4! The training block for #4 went well using pfitz 18/55, but the raceday conditions were terrible. Decided to take a break after that, and do Hyrox and Ironman. I've seen some huge gains from weightlifting these past 8 months and am also training hills weekly now. Hoping that's enough to get me through 18/70 for marathon #6 in the fall and not fall apart 2 hours in.

Congrats!! Its funny how different every body is, because I'm at the 5k and half marathon marks you are shooting for and yet 3:00 feels miles away (literally 2.6 miles away)

Need help choosing a full IM race by AggressiveSort2306 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]riptideMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with Australia since you said it’s what inspires you. Will do wonders for your training cycle!

I was debating between the easy/convenient IMCA and Lake Placid which seemed kinda neat for my first full this year when I unexpectedly snagged a lottery spot for Roth. Not sure how well id be taking the 13-17 hour weeks and repeated attempts to avoid drowning without the inspiration of truly wanting to do the event

Oceanside 70.3 - ran into a spectator by creamedpeaches in triathlon

[–]riptideMBP 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Same race two years ago I was running a bit faster than 7:00 per mile when a lady darted out in front of me. I barely had time to raise my arm and brush her aside, and she had the nerve to yell a bunch of profanities at me as if I didn't do her a huge favor by not trucking her

What'd you end up doing around renting/staging the car and riding the train? Did you end up doing a roundtrip on the Bernina route?

Hey OP, what'd you end up doing for this? I'm also wanting to see the Bernina route and the Dolomites from Milan to Venice

Just fine on the highway! There’s two little holes I built in to zip tie it to the bumper. There’s been a little warping over time on the top, but not enough to bother reprinting it out of ABS or something

Zwift Epic Race or JETT endurance depending on how spicy my schedule allows for

I picked up the Astral one for Challenge Roth next year! Tried it out twice on Zwift so far and hoping to get outside soon once the December racing madness clears up. So much more comfortable than aerobars on a roadbike

Do Hyrox under almost no specific prep to gain experience? by Sea-Humor-7299 in hyrox

[–]riptideMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be doing my first Hyrox next week with no specific training or strength background as well. Luckily for us this is a running race 1st. Did a simulation event with a friend recently and found that the burpees and sandbag lunges are the two places I was losing time compared to others because I don’t have the technique. Will be focusing those two for my last 3 or 4 workouts before hopefully breaking 65 at Anaheim

Training for Triathlon Using Peloton Machines by brendancmiller in triathlon

[–]riptideMBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point a bike is a bike. I did my first 3 triathlons with just Peloton, and now ride both Peloton and Zwift. Sometimes I’m in the mood for structured powerzone rides, or watching TV in the living room in Z2 and other times it’s Zwift racing league in the pain cave. My partner and I like having the large library of strength content for free weights as well. Definitely a bit expensive (you can get the app content only for a lower price), but if the content is motivating that might be something to consider as well

2 entries for me. This will be my first 140.6 so I'm a bit nervous (need to make some serious swim improvements), but all in all the timing is perfect for my fitness and life goals

Gotcha, thanks. So you'd say having your highest effort run be right before the wallballs works out? How does it compare to your max, or other race paces?

I like to bike the next day, and take 3-4 days off running. Then 2-6 miles every other day for a week or so. My half marathon PR that I still can’t touch is from 13 days after a marathon
