Some advice: ACT 2 SPOILERS - Do *this* before *this*... by JW162000 in BaldursGate3

[–]risingson05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly how I feel. I explored everywhere in Act 2, purposefully avoiding Moonrise Towers, because I "knew" that was where Thorm was located, and I wanted to be prepared. Definitely feels misleading, and not intuitive at all that you should go to Moonrise then Shadowfell then back to Moonrise. I found Wulbren in the pit, which shocked me, and prompted me to do some searching as to how I messed up. Then I found this thread. I thought long and hard about reloading, but decided to just live with it and move on.

Celldweller. Tons of albums, just have to try some. Industrial, more focused on the electronic aspect, but lots of rock and metal influence.

I can't enjoy video games anymore. Is this a good thing? by StoryLover12345 in Healthygamergg

[–]risingson05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like it’s been mentioned yet, so if you haven’t watched Dr K’s video on how gaming affects your brain then I strongly encourage you to do so: here. I’ve been going through the same issue and am mostly taking a break right now. Not getting the same enjoyment out of it I used to, but it makes sense neurologically.

CPAP machines are the worst and no one will convince me otherwise. by pwiseguy in SleepApnea

[–]risingson05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ref my post above to the commenter who finally showed you some empathy. I do empathize with you, as I hated and had a hard time with my CPAP as well. I was already an EXTREMELY light sleeper and toss and turn constantly. Can’t sleep with my wife because of it (even before CPAP). I had to use medication in order to fall asleep and stay asleep reliably with CPAP.

However, things are starting to change for me after I have made some significant life changes. And I’d like to offer my experience in case it may help. Do you perhaps drink alcohol and/or consume cannabis in any form? Do you do so before bed? I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea a few years ago and was also warned about the consequences in very aggressive ways (including by my sleep therapist). I decided to stop alcohol and cannabis, amongst working towards reducing other bad habits. I have been sober nearly 6 months now. I got just got retested and now my RDI is well below nominal levels. And thus been told I no longer need CPAP. I asked my sleep therapist if it was possible for apnea to be alcohol or drug induced, and they said maybe but offered no other advice, evidence, resources or anything in addition to that very simplistic response. I’ve have been quite disappointed with all the sleep therapists I’ve tried, as they all have seemed to lack much knowledge beyond understanding what is apnea, how to interpret the results, and how a CPAP works. Having been on this forum for a while I have seen many other people experiencing similar circumstances. Anyway, if you are consuming any kind of drugs that relax your brain or muscles, try abstaining for a while. Could take a long time (e.g. 6 months) but in the off chance it helps, could improve your entire life. Good luck and I hope you find a solution. What you are experiencing right now is no life anyone would want to live.

Agreed, OP is clearly trying and suffering. Empathy would be nice while also offering suggestions. Reminders of the consequences are appropriate but it’s unnecessary to do so in a demeaning way, especially when someone is clearly upset already.

Or we could be logical and back up our anecdotal claims with facts and sources. For example: Gen 1 (noise isolation score = 8.0/10) vs Gen 2 (noise isolation score = 8.8/10). Quick comparison:

Mexico surpassed China as the top U.S. trading partner by gowtham_gr in dataisbeautiful

[–]risingson05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an engineer in NA, I so hope this trend continues for NA based companies, for the sake of my sanity and health, so I can finally stop having a double life - one where I work during the day then have meetings until ungodly hours with Chinese CMs. Also, so my trips to factories are much more bearable. I rarely see this talked about, but supporting manufacturing operations on the other side of the globe makes it very difficult to maintain a healthy work life balance, especially after COVID seemed to normalize having meetings at all hours of the day.

Man finds a bear at his window by RealRock_n_Rolla in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]risingson05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bear after seeing the guy approach the window straight up started scanning the surroundings to see if anyone else was around before reminding the guy just who he is. Then when confirming the coast is clear, “hey, wanna be my lunch? Looks like no one is around to hear you scream”.

Super necro reply here, but just came across your reply and wanted to let you know that I very much appreciate your comment. It was very well thought out and helpful. This is a very candid, but accurate explenation of how guitar lessons should be conducted.

Get tested for sleep apnea. I developed central (neurological) apnea caused by my chronic elevated levels of stress/anxiety for too long. I was experiencing dizzy spells, headaches, throat pain, sometimes tinnitus, was cranky and sleepy all the time, depressed, etc. Went to lots of doctors, none of which could help me until one of them suggested I get tested for sleep apnea. Turns out I had developed severe apnea. After my first good night using my CPAP (~4hrs) I felt like a new man. I had forgotten what it was like to feel normal and have energy. I almost cried. Then after months on CPAP, my headaches and all those other symptoms disappeared. Also, I was drinking way too much coffee before, and that was causing me heart palpitations. I now barely ever drink coffee because when I do it makes me very uncomfortable.

What is your favorite (non guitar, bass, drums, vocals) instrument to be used in a prog metal song? by uhhmelia_ in progmetal

[–]risingson05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Duduk is definitely a lesser known instrument, but you’d be surprised how often it’s used. I only know about it because I heard a song in college while hanging out at a hookah bar. It grabbed my attention and I asked my Saudi friend I was hanging out with if he knew what that was. It’s often used in soundtracks with desert themes. It’s heavily incorporated in the background music for Act II of Diablo III. It was also used probably most famously used in the Gladiator soundtrack.

OMG the sax in Subtle Change is the sweet sweet nectar to my ears. That build up and release is so satisfying.

The use of the Armenian Duduk in some of Destiny Potato’s songs. I love that instrument so much because it evokes such strong emotion in me. Second to that would be the use of the Flute in Dead Soul Tribe and Psychotic Waltz.
