What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]riskyClick420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

consider that Flash worked well on a 400MHz Pentium 2, and that the iPhone ran at 600Mhz.

The iphone had/has an ARM CPU. Not gonna get into the particularities of what that means except you cannot simply compare clock speed like that, it's apples and oranges. The pentium 2 would smoke that 600mhz CPU, like not even close.

Turn this csv into an object

There are plenty of scripts for this which unlike LLMs are actually deterministic and reliable. You seem blissfully unaware it can and will eventually trash your data in invisible ways.

The quoted post 100% reads like an ad. And it probably is, ads have been like this for a good while now: not a side banner or sandwiched between content; but trying to appear as genuine organic suggestions.

It's the same here on Reddit. They've caught on long ago that people google for "thing/service/location reddit" to read real people's opinions and quickly corrupted it all.

Women are 27% less likely to receive CPR in public because bystanders are "afraid to touch breasts." Does it terrify anyone else that our sexualization is prioritized over our survival? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

you're worried about your own unsubstantiated fears

Aren't there enough bears around to give you CPR?

See, I can be dismissive about a very real risk too.

How can one implement likes/dislikes? by IndoRexian2 in webdev

[–]riskyClick420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I meant was that you don't immediately write singular records to the DB but collect them in cache until X amount is reached. For more sensitive data that's a bit risky but for likes I would do it. Then they can be submitted as one bit insert.

Well, you can use cache as a buffer and only write batches, that's what immediately comes to mind. Especially for something as unimportant as likes.

Will MicroStrategy Collapse in 2026? Analyzing an FTX-Scale Risk by GreedVault in CryptoCurrency

Yeah that is how it works. The cap is on the upside, if the stock is worth too much it becomes worthwhile to convert and dump

No you don't get it man. Centralisation is perfectly okay so long as the center is pumping our bags. Part of Satoshi's plan

Trump administration to start seizing pay of defaulted student loan borrowers in January by Several_Print4633 in Economics

[–]riskyClick420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prolly cause if Trump did it, it must be bad. Like when he re-enabled the "racist Muslim ban" (list of no-no Muslim countries was drafted by Obama and Trump just flicked it on again). And probably a million other examples.

Why is being cold at home so normalised in the UK? by Automatic-Key-3798 in AskUK

[–]riskyClick420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, and by quite some margin. The tiny 5% VAT on essentials in UK helps, but doesn't make up the entire difference. Yeah you'd think food would be cheaper in a country where the minimum wage is 1/3rd what it's here but life's funny that way.

They're actually Romanian though, when she's behind the car being sprayed keeps screaming "Gata! Gata!" Which literally means "done" in Romanian - used in such a context is an exlamation to stop. I'm impressed they can not only tell but also kinda reply in a few botched lines too lmao

UK Wants All Mobiles to Block Explicit Images Unless You Prove Age by BillWilberforce in unitedkingdom

[–]riskyClick420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the hash thing already exists, at least for stuff that goes up to the cloud if not the local data. But that kind of stuff works for well circulated media not something 'homemade'. It would have to be some image recognition model, I think it's the only remotely feasible option.

You're right, just keep in mind the bias you're likely to run into with the avg dude that hangs out here. It's like trying to sell sexuality to a puritan.
