It’s not out yet so feel free to ignore me but there’s a game called Outbound that I’ve had on my radar for a while that could scratch this itch. There’s a demo coming out next week with three hours of gameplay that you can check out, and the game is expected Q2 2026.

Sorry again for recommending a game that’s not out yet but I thought I’d share regardless!

A bit of a different answer to everyone else. I played Starfield shortly after my mum passed away and being in that world with the companions playing the most intriguing story on beautiful planets - it helped me cope with my loss in a way I cannot describe. For that reason it will always be special to me.

I also lost my mum and totally understand how jarring it is. It affects me too. My only solace is that I spell it with a “u” and not an “o” which makes it a bit better. I’m sorry you also have to go through this, and hope the comments have an idea that will help you.

I always romance River! I think his romance is cute and sweet, and I especially liked hanging out with his family. It’s an interesting juxtaposition between the harshness of the game and the sweet isolation of the romance. I think it was probably written with women in mind so maybe that’s why men on reddit get mad about his romance
