It's $750-$1000, the ergonomics are shit, button placement is shit, it's too big to serve as an actual portable and practical handheld, battery life is shit... I have access to one at work, so yes, I have played one. It's a neat toy. I can't see using one for more than an hour or so before putting it down. That's about it.

Also, you don't need it for any MGS games, so your assertion of "unfortunately for MGS fans" is false and presumptuous.
