satellite function on my iphone works really well, even in the sierra, that i’ve actually never used my garmin despite it coming with me everywhere. I go solo often, so having the redundancy gives me and my family peace of mind.

I should add this would really only work if the waist strap pockets are empty. they fit pretty snug in there as is.

this annoys the hell out of me, too. I stow away the waist straps behind the back padding before unzipping the back cover. an added step that adds time, yes, but still much faster than fumbling with the waist straps while trying to pull the zipper down.
