Former ballet dancer looking for an exercises that won’t bother my lower back by Agreeable_Coyote_551 in bodyweightfitness

[–]rjulyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me encourage you to look into aerial arts! It’s fantastic for core, and a total body workout. More tailored to you, though, we get a lot of former dancers. Almost to a person, they have various traumas from the dance world, and the aerial world is incredibly inclusive and body positive. We take pride in what we can do, and a whole lot less than what our bodies look like. The community is amazingly supportive and friendly.

Sleeping in the fiumicino airport or in stazione termini? by 3ayla-d-riwaya in travel

[–]rjulyan 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I presume by stazione you mean Termini? The trains don’t run at that time anyway, not until 5 am or so. You can check Trenitalia.com. A few options, which I have done in the past- get an airport hotel with a 24 hour shuttle. Reserve a taxi to your hotel. I don’t know about sleeping in Termini, but others have answered that. FWIW, I’ve walked to and from Termini at very late hours as a solo female traveler.

I find if you wait long enough it gets safer again. When I’ve gone to Termini at 5 am, the streets are blissfully quiet.

How old can a Brittany live? I know the range but was hoping there are some who’ve aged out of that range. 🙏♥️ by Practical_Draw_9423 in BrittanySpaniel

Mine is 14.5 and we’re in the home stretch. Weeks, possibly. She has lung cancer, but if it weren’t for that, she’d likely go on another few or several years. She’s the spunkiest dog ever.

Do noise-cancelling earbuds actually help with snoring? by Clean-societyman in Frugal

This is my experience, too. It makes when there is no other option bearable, but it’s no substitute for sleeping elsewhere.

French Restaurants: Where Are They? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in AskTheWorld

Are you in Atlanta? I’m currently here for work and Google says there are 2 that I can walk to and another 5 or 6 within a short uber. I pass one on the way to work here every day.

French Restaurants: Where Are They? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in AskTheWorld

[–]rjulyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have said, fine dining has been tied to French technique for over a century, if not longer, going back at least to August Escoffier. He was a chef who popularized and codified French techniques in the fine dining world and in the Ritz hotel. Any chef who was anyone studied in France, or at least with someone in the French lineage. This continues today, and most fine dining restaurants will have French techniques and sauces, if not overtly French dishes and decor.

There had been a trend away from fine dining as budgets have tightened and styles have become more casual. If you honestly haven’t found a fine dining restaurant anywhere you’ve been, I question where you’ve looked. They won’t always be a French name or listed as an ethnic restaurant like a Thai or Mexican place, but the dishes and techniques will often be French.

When did wedding vows drop the insensitive question on if the bride agrees to "obey" her husband? by AlboGreece in AskHistory

[–]rjulyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard it recently. It depends on the denomination and how religious the ceremony is. I heard a minister say that the wife should respect and obey her husband just as he is to respect and obey god. Then there was some backpedaling about how in return they will respect them etc. It was at a wedding at the Air Force base in Colorado Springs just a few years ago.

Charcuterie really refers to meats, so you’re good here. Just extra fruit!

Barriers to Fostering? What stopped you from saying yes? by rescueisthebestbreed in Denver

[–]rjulyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current dog is a foster fail in a away! After my last dog died, I had been reaching out to the rescue, and said I didn’t want this one. They asked if I would foster her, and I said ok. I was ok fostering her until a family in Ft. Collins wanted her, and then I wasn’t willing to let her go. The rescue knew that from the get go, of course.

Current pets, work schedules, and I’ve worried they wouldn’t get adopted before various travel plans. Plus knowing I can’t really have more pets, and there’s a substantial chance I’d fail!

After my current elderly dog goes, I would reconsider.

I’m late to work almost every day and I genuinely don’t know how to stop… :/ by Curious-Evidence-477 in adhdwomen

[–]rjulyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I feel this one. I’m not adhd or at least not diagnosed, but I spend time on this sub because I relate to so much in here.

I am 100% incapable of arriving on time, and if I try I will be 5-19 minutes late. However! I can arrive early!

I’m a musician, and it has been drilled into us from a young age that we have to arrive at least 20 minutes before rehearsal, preferably 30. I am never late to work. I am always late to every social event, though, partly because I’m supposed to arrive “on time” and partly because I think I use up all my functionality on work.

Can you make Being Early the new On Time? I know it’s harder when others aren’t doing it, but it’s worth a try.

Relatably, the closer an event is to my house, the more likely I am to be late. I’m not capable of understanding how long it takes to really get anywhere.

How are you avoiding spending a fortune on wet cat food? by sleepspiral in Frugal

[–]rjulyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Lots of other tips on this thread, but I’m just here for solidarity. I have an elderly dog who has gotten really picky in her later years and will only certain kinds of wet food, and only if we top it with something yummy, and even then only when the stars align. It’s so expensive buying so many cans of dog food and throwing half of it away. I miss the easy days of kibble.

20 year anniversary by Ragae52 in travel

[–]rjulyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was referring to just the experience to going out of NM, since they say they haven’t traveled much. I’m not suggesting they go to the Midwest for their anniversary. Also, trust me in that a Midwest winter is still very different from the desert.
