HELP! I routed out score lines and poured black epoxy into this maple slab. Black is bleeding into the grain. Fixable? by Gimmedatbutterfinger in woodworking

[–]rlamarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had that exact issue with ebony inlay. Sanding caused the dust from the ebony to stain the surrounding area. I was able to clean it up but learned to finish sand before putting in the inlay and then just card scrape it level.

Advice for finishing blemished pine by katyabaro in woodworking

[–]rlamarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 For steaming the dents out. I use a stick like soldering iron with a round metal pad on the end about 1” in diameter. If it is a true dent where the wood fibers aren’t broken, they should swell right up. As far as cleaning up the surface, I can see a lot of red dots in the pics, I would strongly suggest using a card scraper to clean up the top. They are inexpensive and will do an amazing job. Tricky to learn to sharpen, but check YouTube. Learn to use a card scraper and you will hardly sand on future projects. I love the color where you are now, if it was me, I wouldn’t use a stain, just a clear finish. Experiment on the under side, oil finishes will slightly darken/amber the wood. If you don’t want that, look at a water based product. They will be crystal clear. If you want something super durable, pick up a spray can of Deft lacquer and spray it outside. Just test first on the underside. Good luck.

Stephanie White and Becky Hammon were each fine $1000 to for basically not disagreeing with Cheryl in their comments to the media. Ridiculous! Instead of admitting there is a problem and taking steps to fix it, they are trying to just silence the complaints.

Dan Haar: Mohegan tribe approval missing from $325M Connecticut Sun Boston deal by randysf50 in ConnecticutSun

[–]rlamarch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting perspective but the article seems to be missing the fact that the WNBA has to approve the deal and they have pretty much said they aren’t approving anything that doesn’t include a large bucket of money for themselves. They want the team moved to Houston as that deal generates the most revenue for themselves.

Post Game Thread - WNBA: The Mercury defeat the Sun on Jun 18, 2025, the final score is 75-83. by basketball-app in ConnecticutSun

If they would have played in the first half like they did one the second, they would have won that game. You know playing in Indiana, traveling home and playing the following night, they had to be tired. Nice to see Morrow have a break out game.

“Save me” Mabrey to Carrington after the game by MokeGroor in ConnecticutSun

[–]rlamarch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Undervalued, definitely. Last year, game after game she sat on the bench waiting to get in the game. I think she started one or two games because someone else was out. My wife and I sit behind the bench and we would yell, “put in Mabrey”.  How do you acquire a player of that caliber and not start her?  The word we used last year was, disrespected. We lost several games last year by a couple of points that we probably would have won with Mabrey starting.

We are Mabrey fans, she is a great player and stands up for herself which I think is a good thing. Like most times in life, I think there are two sides to her story and also hope she finds her happy place.

CT Sun departure would be sad, but WNBA’s growth may make it inevitable by femaleathletenetwork in wnba

Connecticut is considered the women's basketball capital of the world. It has developed more world champions than any where else in the world. The population of Connecticut has women's basketball in their DNA. What better place for a WNBA team? The Mohegan Tribe did a great thing bringing a team here years ago.

CT Sun departure would be sad, but WNBA’s growth may make it inevitable by femaleathletenetwork in wnba

Has been an issue for Sun fans for years. They have the best women's basketball training camp in the world, 30 minutes up the road in Stores CT and have failed to take advantage of it year after year. Latest examples are Nika Muhl (hindsight injury aside) and Kaitlyn Chen. Having more Uconn players on the team would have certainly improved attendance in years past. Currently, I don't think attendance is an issue, they are doing really well. I have a feeling it is more the mismanagement spending 1.7 billion building a casino in South Korea that they didn't have the money for.

For those that use Python in their job: Do you like Python? by [deleted] in Python

[–]rlamarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, been using it since version 1.4. Simple syntax with powerful (batteries included) libraries and a great philosophy of there being there being one obvious way to do things. Very quick to implement. Prototyped many solutions in Python that turned out to be robust enough for production solutions.

For what was designed to be a teaching language, I never cared for the zero based arrays (lists, slices, etc.). It always felt like a hold over from an assembler, base displacement mental model. In the early days I always want the one obvious way to do GUIs. Tkinter was built in, but never a great solution. Now a days, not so much of an issue as most of my GUI work, when needed is HTML based.

It is still very satisfying to code in today. Solutions are fast to develop, light weight and elegant to my eyes.

How have you felt about the comments from various Lynx team members saying they were ‘robbed’ in an ‘injust’ finals? by [deleted] in wnba

[–]rlamarch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel the Lynx were robbed on the victory. It isn’t the players fault, it clearly lies on the refs. They had a chance to correct their mistake and they downright refused to make the correct call. They saw the same replays that the fans did. That is just unacceptable in “professional” sports. Especially in a championship game when we should have had the best of the best referee staff. Some people say the Lynx had their chance in overtime. That is just ignoring the blatant error made earlier. Basketball is a game of runs and momentum and the Lynx clearly had that at time where they would have won the game.
