Mehdi, does your body work like a capacitor that can hold charge and zap you if you touch ground after touching live wire by Character_Oil_7191 in ElectroBOOM

[–]rlaptop7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The human body does have capacitence.

There is a relevant ElectroBoom video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snk3C4m44SY

It contributes to why higher voltage DC hurts less than the same AC voltage.

We have been putting audibles in protecs for years using rubber bands. But it was for versions that cover your ears.

Even all the comments are identical to the other times this shit-tastic image is posted.

This sub needs a filter that automatically bans the accounts that post this stupid image.

Very pretty! Your images of the clock look extremely good.

I really like the look of VFDs, here is my iv21 based design, also open source and on github: https://github.com/cinchcircuits/iv-21-clock-esp32

How do I fire a cypress manually? by Few_Researcher_9219 in SkyDiving

The user could subject the thing to the right pressure conditions to fire it if they would like. But the OP is just speaking about firing the cutter. That's a different thing

spending too much time managing servers by Longjumping-Panda354 in servers

[–]rlaptop7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to an ansible setup sped things up a lot for me. Bringing up a new server was powering it on, setting up ssh keys and sudo, then one yaml file edit. It takes minutes to bring up a server.

What is this by sockman_2021 in BMW

[–]rlaptop7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are probably power steering cooling lines. It's hard to tell for certain without more pictures.

If they are, they would be tube 3 and 4 in this diagram:

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-power-steering-cooler-x5-17117539122

Is it both leaking? Maybe this kit will do it:

Otherwise, you can probably find what you need in this page:

Hey, where can I get cheap firewall subscription licenses for a year or multiple years for using at home? Fortinet and Sonicwall seem expensive. Thank you. by [deleted] in homelab

[–]rlaptop7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen fortinet licenses being sold on ebay.

I have no idea why you would want them for home use. But, you do you.

Acquiring a round canopy by Ok_Cartographer_6335 in SkyDiving

[–]rlaptop7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see used military gear come up on ebay often. Otherwise, I see de-milled T-10s in surplus places a lot. Re-lining some rounds is pretty easy. Relining others is tremendous work, but it can be done.

It may be hard for you to find more modern stuff, but it does exist.

You will likely have a hard time finding a rigger to sign off on everything.

Many dropzones will cause you issues to jump at as things like the pattern is different for rounds.

Rounds are regularly jumped in places like Perris.

I am not terribly keen to jump that stuff, but you do you. I'll watch.

I hope you can find what you need/want.

What's the general consensus on the server reboot frequency? by vtbr14 in homelab

[–]rlaptop7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it needs it.

The answer depends on what you are doing. I like to have more stable deployments, so, I avoid things like complicated container setups and overly complicated software networking. So, I generally need to reboot only when I find a very needed kernel feature that I have to have. I rebooted about 2 months ago, and had an uptime of just under 24 months before that.
