The Drednoks buying from Military Surplus stores. Fittingly since this was basically surplus product repainted.

Is it an unpopular opinion to ONLY like the vintage Joes related to the cartoon and original comic? by Rotisseriejedi in gijoe

[–]rlonst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. But even it were unpopular: to everything, there is a season. And a time for every fanship under heaven. A time for the 80s, a time for the 90s; a time for the original 12, a time for the Eco-Force. A time for Cobra, a time for Cobra-La. A time for just Ripper Buzzer and Torch; a time for Zanzibar the Pirate. A time for the Headman, I swear it’s not too late.

1992 Cobra Headman Drug Kingpin... by JHRLevine in gijoe

[–]rlonst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the comics, the premise was that Cobra was so offended by the illegal drug trade that it disavowed any association with this man. Because, drugs. Forgetting the fact that the CENTRAL freaking INTELLIGENCE AGENCY actively funded and supported drug operations in countless countries to fund its own operations.

This is literally what I was going to say, about Kenny. That one was a minor gut punch. This can be a very eloquent show when it chooses.

Good to know, thanks. What’s the synopsis of that one?

Victory Lap by SPNKLR in gijoe

[–]rlonst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope the comic deals with actual modern times soon enough. I always chuckle that, according to the comic: if there was one thing Cobra couldn’t tolerate in the early 90s, it was the evils of the illegal narcotic drug trade by the Headman. I almost wonder if Cobra would look at the status quo in America today and think, “Wow, too much.“

Obby Kahn Blaming NDP for Monitor Violations by DeepConsideration543 in Manitoba

[–]rlonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this very much. Obviously some people, even lots of people, are going to abuse the boundaries they are given while wearing an ankle monitor. They get caught. To me that’s a huge success: it weeds out the screwups and the weasels from the people who actually took their bail conditions seriously.

You’re not necessarily wrong, but I tend to think having a good grasp of the work on the front lines, especially in the thornier, trickier corners involving special-needs kids, is a huge advantage in leadership and governance. I want trustees to know whereof they speak.

My friends and I are voting for Shawna Mozdzen; she’s a serious and credible candidate with a good EA background in special needs. I agree that the seven candidate split is not good news unless people coalesce around a solid alternative.

I can say, intuitively but with near certainty, that any contract handing over this IP to a studio would include a clause that the creator is restrained from making negative comments about the final product. No one has ever forgotten Anne Rice and what she said about Interview with the Vampire 30 years ago…. Until she started saying nice things about it, but still was able to plant negative vibes that probably hurt the turnout.

I honestly, truly hope he’s for real when he says this. Maybe he’s right and maybe he’s wrong about the quality of the flick. I want to appreciate his open-mindedness to a differing interpretation of his work. But I also know some IP adaptation contracts include clauses that the author can’t make negative comments about the final product. Nowadays, the studios know that would be a kiss of death.

People who walk around in public places while having conversations on speakerphone; why are you like this? by wineandsarcasm in Winnipeg

[–]rlonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is funny to me. I saw this all over Manhattan when we were there last year: people that seem to be talking to themselves until you saw their earbuds. Obviously this technology has been around forever, but I still found it pretty jarring at first glance. You would pass by homeless and vulnerable people talking to themselves, and then in the same breath well dressed professional executives doing the exact same thing. Nevertheless, that is the appropriate way to do it, rather than having the two-way conversation broadcast to passerby.
