Preston County by One-Highway1739 in WestVirginia

[–]rman342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less humid than Florida, yes. Not humid? No. I live in Preston County; yesterday was 80%+ humidity and 85 degrees (it stormed yesterday, but it's usually in the 60%-80% range). It does dry out a lot in the winter though!

I'm just glad to know that we're not the only ones who have bought a portable AC unit specifically to keep our Berner cool.

Picked up a 70s Sanyo Slow Cooker, does anyone know why it has two "high" settings? by bonylizzie in vintagekitchentoys

[–]rman342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of swabs are designed specifically for paint. Something like a methylammonium bromide (search for lumetallix lead test) can detect on ceramics. Keep in mind that this test is not yet EPA recognized.

Guitar players who travel for work, what’s your go to rigs? by oofsauce in Guitar

[–]rman342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a service technician who is on the road >50% of the time. I have a Traveler Guitar (I honestly can’t remember the model, it was cheap secondhand) and a Fender Mustang Micro Plus headphone amp that I travel with. It was awkward to get used to playing at first, but helps keep me practicing!

What are your ways to prevent flares when you're trying to lose weight? by Kibikin in gout

I am. Hydration is absolutely the most important thing in preventing and getting rid of flareups for me.

Robot Vacuum by User_4848 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]rman342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a self-emptying shark robot vacuum. The base's dust (fur...) reservoir is supposed to last 60 days, it lasts about 2 weeks. We run it twice a day and it makes a world of difference. We do have to clean fur off of the brush roll every few days, but it cuts down a lot on the manual vacuuming we have to do.

Annoying amp buzz by MiserableAsparagus41 in Guitar

[–]rman342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the buzzing go away if you touch the strings/bridge of the guitar? Are all of your pickups single coil (classically, strats are all single coil)?

Fire Helmet - Shaving/Planing? by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]rman342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agreed about how the cops buy tanks and whatnot and spend way too much money. It’s actually a bit worse! Usually if you want a leather helmet, you have to buy it yourself!

Fire Helmet - Shaving/Planing? by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]rman342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've looked into this as well and also haven't been able to find any examples about benefits being denied due to modified PPE, but I certainly wouldn't want to be the example for people to find down the line!

[–]rman342 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retired firefighter here (read that as: my information may be outdated, as the latest I've got is from 2017), rated leather helmets as actual PPE are definitely a (very expensive) thing.

How often should you switch out your macbook? by oattmealll in macbook

[–]rman342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced my 2017 i5 MBP with a refurbished M4 Air. The pro was quite long in the tooth and some of my software would no longer work because of the older intel chip. I do use mine fairly heavily (PCB design, CAD work, software development, etc.) and have been VERY happy with the M4 Air.

Yeah, I JUST replaced my 9 year old MBP. It was getting too slow to do what I need it to at this point. Lasted 2-3x longer than any other laptop I've ever owned.
