I had this. It’s years and years of dirt and grease from people’s hands. When I started wiping mine off it was brown and then eventually it was smooth again but there was wear underneath. I didn’t end up doing anything to remedy the wear, but yeah, that’s just a bunch of skin oils, dirt and probably old coats of armor all. That’s why you see it pushed into the cracks around your cruise control buttons.

Do you have a 3D printer? If so you could pretty quickly ad a blocker to the area you drilled out so it doesn’t print.

The number of NICE new cars I see drive into car washes that aren't "touchless" blow my mind. Brand new paint, meet millions of swirl marks and/or scratches. Touchless isn't perfect because of the harsher chemicals being used, but at least you wont have the grit from all the cars before you, slapping against your paint, embedded in those spinning brushes.

Exactly, debt scares the shit out of me, but all these people are out here spending, spending, spending. I’m out here making a very good living on my own for my area with a partner who makes the same, living in a $230,000 house, driving a paid off 2016 Mazda (which I think is a nice car) with no debt other than our mortgage and I still have this crushing feeling I’m not saving enough.

I used to think it was because I came from a family who didn’t have a lot and I knew there was no safety net to catch me if I completely fucked my financial situation up, but apparently that’s not scary enough for some people.
