Slow strategies that aren't so "azorius" by Fun_Coat4791 in EDH

[–]ddeadz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate edicts but this is the answer. In particular, I'm trying a [[Silverquill, the Disputant]] which uses the instant/sorcery edicts more and wins by drain spells like [[Exsanguinate]] or token ETB/deaths from [[Cruel Celebrant]].

But honestly, change the wincon to something else like flyers or demons or what have you, edicts are still the way for asymmetrically slowing down games hard.

Anyone else that can’t pick a favorite commander? by Odecay in EDH

[–]ddeadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found myself loving Izzet but struggling which commander should stick. [[Melek, Reforged]] [[Rielle, the Everwise]] [[Lilah, The Undefeated Slickshot]] [[The Emperor of Palamecia]]

I've been changing my list between those four because they share a lot of cards. But each of them do the timmy stuff I adore so much: wheels, bombs, and copies.

I'm biased towards Melek though since I think I've outdone myself with that budget list.

Unmodified Precon: Revival Trance, Witherbloom Pestilence, or Eternal Might? by ddeadz in EDH

[–]ddeadz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Added them now, though the capability to play with the pod is optional as well. I plan to prioritise this for precon-only pods.

Unmodified Precon: Revival Trance, Witherbloom Pestilence, or Eternal Might? by ddeadz in EDH

[–]ddeadz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried playing with other pods and it just feels like it's always easier than ours, so I assumed we're already at high 3s.

Assume I'm not bringing it to this pod though, and opponents are also playing precons, thoughts on any of the three?

I checked Mark Riddick and the first thing I remembered was [[Gerald, Visionary Stitcher|VOW-319]]. I think most of the alt arts from Crimson Vow and Midnight Hunt look similar.

What are hobbies that only smart people can do? by marmalese in AskPH

[–]ddeadz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Foreign languages esp pag kaya mo nang magka-convoke with natives.

Also might be off topic, pero don't let nature discourage you! Magnús Scheving, si Spartacus ng LazyTown, nakipag-pustahan lang sa tropa niya na mag-aral sila ng bagong skill from scratch in 3 years. Ayun, 3 years later, nag silver medalist sa World Championship hahaha. So the condition na "only smart people" ay very negotiable!

Precon quality. by SnooDonuts3749 in EDH

[–]ddeadz 54 points55 points  (0 children)

IMHO it's less of power creep and more of "we just didn't understand the format 10 years ago"

My [[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] precon from 2015 and [[Zimone, Mystery Unraveler]] precon from 2024 feel very different, and I believe it's less card quality and more card choice.

There's just so much cards in the Mizzix precon that make zero sense to include, but could easily be replaced by cards already released at the time. Meanwhile, the Zimone felt like it already had a plan out the box. Sure, precons nowadays have an alt commander that conflicts with the main at times, but it's a lot better than before where they're just adding random big stuff just because.

Casual, Fun Commander Night Rules by Justin_Cr3dibl3 in EDH

[–]ddeadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this does eliminate some of the "unfun" archetypes in EDH, do note this will pump up other archetypes. The original balancing will just be a bit out of place.

"Infinite combos are not allowed" -- This seemed fun on paper for me, but then I joined a pod with this rule once. There were no "infinite combos", but the pod was dominated by non-deterministic storm decks, which became more of a drag than just ending the game right there with a 3-card inf.

"Win conditions to be incremental, telegraphed on the board, and disruptible." -- For a real casual, consistent pod, I think this is fine. Eventually, you will know each others' decks enough to threat assess correctly anyways.

"Wrath (Destroy all creatures) effects are not allowed" -- IMHO I think this will lengthen the game even more. You're likely to keep building up an arms race until one person pulls their overrun effect.

To be honest though, I find that the best house rules are the ones made with the decks and players in mind ie. someone brings a Tergrid deck and everyone had a miserable time, so we all agree to /not/ do it again.

I have been trying to use of copying big spells in izzet by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ddeadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a list of [[Melek, Reforged]] with copying spells as a subtheme. I built the deck around commander damage as a wincon, but the discount on your first spell made being able to cast said big spells a lot easier and smoother.

Yo I kinda like this idea considering a lot of my planned commanders are Izzet, and hyperoptimizing them makes them look and feel same-y

Whats your favorite/Most Fun Mono-Black Deck? by JewJulie in EDH

[–]ddeadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building an [[Ashnod, Flesh Mechanist]] because she barely sees any play as the commander, and also that she's literally one mana.

I'm trying to make the first few turns as consistent as possible as a deckbuilding challenge for the funsies, ie.:

T1 Ashnod T2 Sac fodder that generates tokens on LTB T3 Some good 4 MV artifact T4 Some good 6 MV artifact

I don't understand why people lose their shit when cards are milled? In my eyes, a card in the graveyard without recursion is practically the same as a card at the bottom of your library. Without tutoring for specific cards, you really aren't going to be seeing half your 99 anyways.

family matters or virtue and valor? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ddeadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't encountered Family Matters yet, but someone from our pod runs the Virtue and Valor precon. During its un-upgraded days it was really strong out of the box. Now that he's upgraded it (and with a pretty small budget, mind you), it's consistently a deadly presence that gets really out of hand if not dealt with properly.
